Rare Name Release 2014

The rare name release is just around the corner and everyone is getting ready to have to opportunity to own a username more desirable than their current.

How are we going to get around the problem of snipers when all the rare names are released?

 

that's something that Jagex is working on. They're making some prerequisites set for the accounts that are able to take the released names. There's rumors going on and I'm not positive what those are yet. Some say that a membership is required, some say the age of the accounts, and there are also rumors about quest points required

 

I'm definitely going to try to snap one up, gonna have to get a bond for it unless I get a forced name change in time.

You said it's just around the corner, is there a set date or anything? Or are you just basing that off the initial announcement that said it would be in a couple weeks. I'm curious as to how Jagex is going to prevent the snipers, I'd say membership is probably the likeliest option, although that wouldn't really stop too much these days.

 

Based on what Jagex is saying it could be this week, or next. They said through July and August. The end of July is right around the corner.

The release is going to happen in batches anyways, so there may be several dates

 

I'm pretty sure that they have said that for the first week, only accounts with membership will be able to snap up the released names. Not 100% sure on that, but I remember reading it somewhere on the RSOF/official announcement.

Thanks, I appreciate the link. So, they'll release a list of names they've cleared but you'll only be able to change it to whatever is on that list?

 

Correct. And they'll be releasing the 50 million names over several weeks.

 

Any idea when the first release will be?

 

Like Folt said above, there are only guesses so far but chances are either next week or the week after.

 

I may hop in the friends chat every so often when I have time. Is the friends chat very active?

As for the name release I hope I can get a rare name, but I have a feeling the name snipers will steal all of them first lmao.

Inb4 i buy 10 accounts just to get the names

 

Its very active. We normally have 25+ people in at a time talking. A bit less on our slow times of the day though

 

Do you have any idea if one letter names are going to be released?

I probably won't have a chance with all the snipers out there.

 

I don't think that any 1 letters are going to be released.

 

Its still a gamble at this point. I dont see why some of them wouldnt

 

Okay, since I haven't had any luck getting an answer anywhere else - are banned accounts (which have logged in to the website within the last 2 years, but not in-game) having their names freed up?
