How Long Do You Give RS?

There have been way too many updates this year that just seemed like ways for Jagex to make a quick buck. (premium membership, 07scape, bonds,etc.)

All of this combined with the continuously decreasing player base makes me believe Jagex is on the way out. How long do you give RS?

Personally, I'm in the process of leaving RuneScape completely. I don't have faith in the future of this game.

 

well, it's not that the player base is decreasing. Sure, there are only 50k people online at a given time, but before when it was say 250k, i'd say 150k of them were just bots. Now, runescape is honestly at it's best that i've seen in a while. Players are actually friendly, and not everywhere is crowded with bots.

 

The player base is definitely decreasing. This site graphs the number of players over time. Some of the decrease is bots yeah, but a lot is also players. It's also pretty obvious if you go around and actually try to do something... Once upon a time you could go skill or do whatever and there would be people to talk to. Now everywhere is just empty. At least Jagex is considering removing some of the worlds (very much needed).

I quit a week ago because of this.. 40% off of solomons store and now these bonds.. I feel like Runescape is going to end up closing down extremely soon within the next few years, sad to say.
I love Runescape, honestly the last 8-9 months I've spent playing it have been the best and it's gonna be a shame to see that go.

 

Weren't people saying this in 2008 to lol ? I mean I can vividly remember forums flooded with posts about runescape's "inevitable demise" since trade limit was implemented.
As far as actual gameplay though runescape is improving. idk how people prefer the monotony of 07 rs over eoc. click.... wait 5 seconds pick up bones rinse and repeat.. what immersive gameplay that was -_-

 

people prefer it because they got used to it pking wise. Eoc killed the aspect of pking thus no one wanted to play it. i still play eoc (pvm/vorago) because it's somewhat enjoyable.

oh and the chance to get a 2b ~ worth wand which is around 500-600 usd is a +1 also

 

After eoc update, Runescape has started to die as expected by majority of the players but not a single staff member of fagex.

 

It'll still be a while until the entire website and all versions of the game (RS3/EoC, 2007 and Classic) are closed and access to them removed. Probably still 5-10 years left of Jagex trying to grab some last ditch cash.

 

dont think that it's going to last much longer, jagex is just going to try to milk some cash out of it.

I've played for almost a decade now, ever since the first quarter of 2012, Jagex has managed to decrease their playerbase almost 80%. The game has already died, in case you haven't noticed, all of the content updates are focused solely around producing profit.

 

I think they are going to find a way to reach a new player base sometime in the future. The game is changing and I think it will soon start to grow. I have hope that it may one day regain strength in similar numbers to its past years.

 

RuneScape's rating on the Internet right now is pretty poor to be honest, for those that even talk about it. It won't die just yet, so long as enough people pay the costs so Jagex can keep their employees paid and the company running, RS will stay up and running.

 

I think the single best thing that would help them is new staff...

 

Probably 2 years, tops. It is going to die soon with the new updates. 07 will not bring old schoolers back and not enough new people are joining.

 

in a few years they will turn the game into a modern fucking city with cars and bullshit..

 

The same dedicated userbase will stay though, but the number of new members will definitely decrease.

At this rate I'd say ~2-3 years before Runescape really dies out and the only people playing are those that have invested far too much time and effort to pull out

 

I agree that the game is taking a downward trend and it has been for the past few years. I can honestly say I am not fond of the changes they have made. I think the real reason why the playerbase has left is because most of the older players don't adjust well to change. I have been playing since classic/intro of RS2 and I can honestly say I have seen some changes. I think most people did not give EOC/RS3 a chance and automatically criticized Jagex for updating the game with features that are found in many other MMO's.

Sadly, these additions are necessary to keep the game alive for the next generation. If they did not update to keep with the times, the game would fail as well. It still has its faithful players and I am sure it gets new members everyday.

My personal grievance with Jagex is the way they introduced 07scape. It divided an already torn apart community which has caused a major rift between players. How did they think this was a smart move? I was hoping they would bring something on the order of 2011 servers. Something before the last armor update. But what do they do? They bring back a severely outdated server that gets just as boring as the current live game. But all of this is my opinion simply because I still have faith in the game :/
