Why Has Runescape Gone Downhill?

I started playing Runescape in 2004 for about 2 years. I then stopped playing for a couple of years and came back on in 2011 but found that it was almost a totally different game that I really didn't enjoy. Does anyone know why it changed so much?(for the worse)

 

Because since Runescape was bought by the new investors it's primary concern is micro-transactions and other such scams.

They're also trying to compete with other, modern MMO's like LoL, WoW and Diablo - when we all know a game like Runescape in terms of graphics and content just can't.

Runescape's USP was it's simplicity and competitiveness to be up in the high scores. Today in EoC, everyone and anyone has a maxed account with 60000B because the game is just stupidly crammed with buyable armour and crappy looking pets. They're trying to make Runescape something it isn't, which is why it's lost it's simplicity. Also, there are so many EXP boosting items and methods, that 99's now take no effort to achieve.

I wouldn't be one bit surprised if Oldschool Runescape outlasted EoC.

 

No one could say this better. They tried so hard make the huge money that WoW and LoL makes in the MMo market that they changed their game's identity and lost most of thier fan base with it. They realized it and opened 07 servers to try to bring back players. It worked on me, got me back into RS.

 

This above is everything need to be said, they got the need to change/remove/ruin everything in the game and even things that were just okay, (armor update, weapon update, hatchet update, lifepoints, General Stores, character running animation, weapon holding animation etc.)
But yeah jagex did something amazing by bringing back 07, even though they've themselves ruined RS itself.

 

Runescape yes has changed a lot, tho I still enjoy it Unfortently its just going to keep going downhill from here

 

I guess we all better stick to 07scape from now on.

Rs hasn't gone down hill you've just matured and moved on to new things.

 

This is perfect. They're not doing a good job with 07 scape either though, which is sad.

 

I think it's because we are getting more and more used to new features and better graphics of other games etc.

Like I used to love Jurassic park back in the day, it was awesome. But I watched it recently and thought Wtf is this shit??

I guess we just remember things being fun, but we never remember graphics etc are shit.

 

I still like the 07 servers like i did when i was young eocscape losy its competitiveness. They also ruined the mini games

 

The investors that care about short-term profit and not about the quality of game.

 

Bots. Bots alone killed Runescape. The bigger and better the bots the worse the game got. Billions of gold worth of items pumped into the game through bots and a playerbase not big enough to support it. Bots also drove the real players to other MMO's like WoW. When a game gets to a point where people brag about money more than accomplishments or stats it is long gone.

Not too mention the game requires 0 skill to accomplish anything. The lag ingame makes people not even want to pay or play it on its own.

But ultimately it comes down to bots. They let them run a rampage on the real player base for so long and extremely heavily that people who played quit or started using bots and players who joined just said F this

 

Because Andrew Gower is a sell out.
