Information on "old"servers - former Jagex employee

Hello to the Sythe community.

The purpose of this post is to shed a little light on the content that has been the center of much speculation over the past months.

I am a former employee of Jagex, I still maintain regular contact with some of my former colleagues, one of whom works closely with the development team.

I am posting this to put your minds at ease, and because I was never happy with the communication between Jagex and its players. It has always been a one way conversation.

The following information comes from current Jagex employees, dates and content may change at any time.

1: "Old school" servers.

"Old school" servers will be introduced this year. The squeel of fortune will be enabled in the old school servers to replace some content that will not be available in the re-introduced version. Only content that was available in the "old runescape" can be received from the squeel of fortune. The date that the servers will be "rolled back" to will be decided in a Poll, to be held later this year. I have been told the developers generally agree that it will be somewhere in 2006. Solomon's general store will not be available in these servers.

Just as it was and still is today, there will be both free to play and members servers, only players with a current subscription will be able to access the members servers. Any account that was created after the "roll back" date, (lets say 2006) will have all stats re-set to 1 upon entering the old server, all wealth will also be reset. Any account created before 2006 will have the same stats and wealth that it did at the time of the roll back date. The developers believe this is essential for the economy as it will re-introduce "rares" and other items in a fair way. As far as stats go, I'm told the setup explained before is very likely to change, it is believed that the opening of the "Old servers" will be a major event and there will be "xp lamps", "bonus xp time periods" and other hand ups to get new players started (remember, this is all still on the drawing board). Items will be non transferable between "Old servers" and the current game.

The "old servers" will have their own independent high scores. Only accounts that access the re introduced servers will appear on the high scores.

In the poll to be held later this year, players will have the chance to vote on key elements, I was told that it was suggested that players who had accounts that predate 2006 may have stronger influence in the poll. Some content that may be voted upon will be:
- Skill capes in old servers
- Quick chat
- Slightly enhanced menus
- Slightly enhanced music/SFX

There will still be a tutorial island, but you will have the option to skip it.

New accounts must log into the main game before accessing the old servers.

I am told that the current project overview changes every day, there are no staff working on in full time yet. It is by no means in the stages of development, but it has been on the drawing board for more then a month.

In the unlikely event that I receive more information, I will update this post.

2: Squeel of Fortune.

Not much to say, it's here to stay. There will be a poll in May where players can have their say on changes they want made to the SoF.

3: Membership.

By the end of the year, purchasing membership will be a lot different. There will be membership "packages" that include standard membership, additional content, SoF spins and J coins. The price of standard membership will rise by approx. 30%

From where did you read this information that your friend had sent to you? Was it an e-mail or did he post it on some sort of website/forum?

Is it possible for us here to view the information he sent you? Can you take a screenshot or video?

Interesting, if this is legit it's quiet a big deal.

It wouldn't be the first time a former employee has leaked information.

If you read the top they are saying that they are a former employee and that this information is coming for current employees.

At first I though 100% chance of a fake but after reading, it all seems within the limits of what jagex would realistically do.

 

50/50 seems legit but it also seems too good to be true, mind if I link this thread in my thread?

This is the wisest they could do, just make it easy and make a poll.
Would be sick to see the Tutorial island make a return. seeing as it's already ingame.

I'd love if the info above is true, because then we can actually VOTE not just that Jagex auto-makes it a 2012 server with only no-eoc and all the new armor + weapon + bars + 2012 shit. So yeah, please let us vote Jagex.
I'd also like to be able to go on my current accounts though.. but let's hope so.

I personally hope the make these options.

I used to really want to have the old RS back, but I gave up on that wish a while ago, after realising that it wouldn't have the same feel as back in 2006. The game could be the same as in 2006 well as the gameplay, but the community has changed drastically since 2006, it has become progressively worse.

Also, I think from Jagex's point of view, if they created these "old" servers, there's a lot of data out there to suggest that they would have a lot of demand and most likely have more players than the current RS servers. It would be embarassing for Jagex, if the current RS lost most of it's players to the old servers.

But I wouldn't put it past them, since Jagex are so money hungry these days. They would do anything to increase their revenue.

 

It's not really Jagex. Its the people who own Jagex. I forget how it works, but the people who are above Jagex want the money.

 

unsure where u got ur info from but I don't think they will make seperate "oldschool" servers unless they make you pay extra to play them. they essentially need to run 2 games on their servers for this which definitely isn't cost effective. not to mention they tried this same idea with runescape classic and it failed miserably so I don't think jagex is that dumb to try the same failed attempt twice, or are they?

Reading the article, it seems to be legit. Anyway, all what has been stated are just speculations. This means that they may or may not be implemented wherein it's still in the process of the Jagex Developers' final decision.

As to what I have observe from lurking into the official community forum of RS, it seems that Mod's are now listening to the demands of the players. So this means that the outcome of the Pre-EoC that will soon be released will be based on all player's suggestions or ideas.

 

Requesting this to be closed considering cant verify the source and could just be a troll.
