Runescape allegedly infiltrated by crime "clans".

Noticed this in the Sunday paper here in Sydney.

Anyway the parents are idiots for not hooking up their paypal with their email and ending this soon.

Sythe should not be brought into this, technically the site is a gambling community, go quote from DD or something.

Love how they've quoted sythe, wonder who posted that. RWT has ruined RS, but at the end of the day it's made it easier for the new kids, making it more enjoyable. The quicker they can get the easy 99's, the more likely they will get hooked for the harder ones.

Disagree. It was always a part of Runescape, for the most part not as transparent and dominant though. Imo, RS updates and its target audience are what screwed it over many years ago.

When they removed the wild initially in 2007 and brought about BH/PVP etc, they were still trying to cater for the demographics that had already left runescape and moved on. They persisted with that up till the EoC. Bringing FT and all back was good, however those updates were still targeted at drawing back their old and lost target market. If Jagex stopped trying to rectify what was already long gone, and focused on acquiring new players sooner, then I could see Runescape being alot more successful than it is now.

Most of the people I knew on Runescape back then, quit well before 2007. Yes, the Wild and FT being removed initially was a huge part of its downfall, but it wasn't the only thing.

 

Tbh, I 100% agree with everything said in the article runescape is making people gamble I my self included. I know plenty of people who have lost Thousands if not tens of thousands due to runescape I know you need some self control but what control does a 14 year old really have when they are using some one else's credit card.

 

Runescape has always had gambling. The heat is on gambling clans now only because staking was ruined; stakers switched over.

 

Jagex is doing RWT aswell now so why are they always blaming the players for it.

 

Exactly ! Why shouldn't we do what we want too, jagex ruined it for themselves on a large part.

 

Lol, that is funny. Wonder who it was, to be honest $2000 or what ever it was isn't huge compared to some serious gamblers.

 

Well I've lost everything I've bought on sythe haha, luckily I stopped before I lost a lot more.

 

Also I think the parents are to blame. Either hide your credit cards or control your kids.

 

This does present a rather serious problem. In most countries, gambling does requires one of legal age to enter and gamble. In Runescape, however, there's no law preventing children from gambling.

I personally hope Jagex will find away around this. To cater to the older aged group players as well as the young ones.

 

This will be great for exposure haha.

 

That article is way too dramatic. RuneScape, gambling addiction, and criminal gangs all mentioned in the same breath.

EDIT: I just want to add that I've always been against gambling in RuneScape. I don't think it is appropriate for the game and I also think the majority of kids playing the game are far too immature to be doing any sort of gambling in the first place. Maybe with some exposure like this, Jagex will begin to pay more attention to the problem and stamp it out of the game for good.

 

Might have taken it from that.
