Awesome moment ruined by a greedy noob

    Hey guys!

So the other day I went to W77 and joined a random team, and during the floor I encountered 2 Soulgazers. Much to my astonishment, the second Gazer dropped a Hexhunter bow - an item that I've been seeking for awhile and did not expect to get any time soon. I have not had a moment this exciting in RS for awhile, but it was all ruined within a matter of seconds by a greedy noob :(

Basically, to make a long story short, the Hexhunter bow that I received as a drop was sniped by a low leveled noob who did not even have the stats to wield the bow, let alone help kill the Soulgazer.

In the picture you can see a person standing on top of the pile where the Hex is lying. This person is NOT the person who received the bow. He was 99 Slayer and arrived right as I was finishing up with the Gazer and got a few hits in. The kid who sniped the bow off the ground was one of the white dots you can see outside the door, watching the battle between me and the Gazer. He was following me along a path when we encountered the Soulgazer, and he immediately attacked it but was not able to do any damage (he was 86 Slayer, and only 86 ranged).

Thanks to Jagex's broken and glitched drop system in the EOC, despite not having the required levels to actually damage or fight the Gazer, the fact that he tagged it allowed him to scoop it up off the ground before I did. This is all after he stood outside, wished me good luck, and watched me kill it from start to finish.

The worst part was the 20 minute period after he scooped up the bow. The team gathered outside and for 20 minutes this kid tried to decide whether he should do the right thing and give me the bow, or whether he should bind it himself. 2 of the team mates were very kind and trying to reason with him to give me the bow, but he had additional pressure on him from the kid in the picture with the Dung cape as he was also begging for the bow. In the end he bound it, which was not all that surprising. It really sucks how greedy kids are in this game nowadays.

Needless to say, it was a really upsetting floor but I'm now more determined than ever to get another Hexhunter bow. The Soulgazers seem to be much more common in the EOC than they were before, which is a good thing :)

If you were leader, you should have kicked him and picked up. It's a shame he stole it :/

That really sucks. I have always wanted one of those bows myself so I couldn't imagine how annoyed I would be if that were to happen to me. I have had a similar thing happen in WoW where some one rolled need for an item they couldn't even use and got it.

Owned son. That guy was an ass but I am sure if you asked him in a kindly way (seriously from your heart) he would've given you the bow

He was actually the host of the party otherwise I might have considered this.

No, that is partially what was so upsetting and what really ruined my night. I'm an old player and have been around off and on since 2001 back in RuneScape Classic. I have seen the game & the community change so much over the years, and not for the better either.

Like I described above, the floor completely halted after the Hex drop, and we stood outside that room as a team and for 20 minutes 2 of the team mates tried to convince him to give me the bow, while me & the other guy you see in the picture were both asking him nicely.

I even reduced myself to pathetic begging, asking him to put himself in my shoes and imagine how I felt in that moment right there. How he watched me kill the Gazer and do all the work, yet he runs in and scoops up my prize. I also pleaded with him to realize that he does not even have the required levels to use the bow and as of this moment, that bow is completely useless to him whereas I could get so much use out of it. I even offered to give him a large chunk of my already puny bank and HE didn't trust ME to pay him.

In the end it did not matter, he bound it anyways like I knew he would. Sad world!! :( :( :( :(

As said before, he was an ass, However you can't judge him as who knows if he experiences a sad background, like maybe he has no friends, or gets bullied all the time, who knows whats up on his life?

I am certainly sure a person with a normal life would've definetely given you the bow

E: It probably sucked to be you at that time, however if you are still sad then you're quite lame as its just an online game... I've had my ups and downs while playing RuneScape but then I just realized its was just an internet game, Think it this way: So you managed to get the bow, and then what? You became stronger on an online game..

That literally always used to happen to me when I tried dungeoneering out, you'd see a drop you wanted like a SSH and automatically everyone swarms to it. I remember some dude that already had one claimed it one time and was raffling it off.

Also - Go on Skype or MSN man!

Why does that drop even show up for him? I thought dungeoneering items like that were player specific (I've never done dung). That sucks man :(

LOL interesting thought, but I don't really care whether or not he has a sad life. There is a certain decency that you'd like to expect from another person that sadly seems to get lost in the anonymous world online. Sadly, I think most people in his shoes would have done the exact same thing. There is something about stabbing somebody in the back over a computer that just doesn't tug on your conscience the way it does in the real world. Look at all the scamming that goes on here on Sythe. In my time as a moderator, I witnessed many kids being cruel and heartless to one another without so much as a second thought as to what they were doing. It is the sad reality of things.

But yeah, I admit that I am still sad over the loss but if you read the original post you would already understand that I'm over it and I am now more motivated and determined to get another Hexhunter bow. It is now a goal of mine (the one that dropped the other day was a very, very random surprise).

I didn't create this thread with the intention of whining and making everybody feel sorry for me lol, I just wanted to share the story and maybe spark a discussion of some sort. But mostly to share my cool picture - the only thing I came out of that dungeon with :p

I'm sorry to hear that Snowbud. I hope that you get back on your feet and learn from whatever mistakes it is that you might have made. There is a lesson to be learned in everything! :)

Yeah, I've scrambled after a few Shadow Silk Hoods myself as a noob haha! Now whenever I receive one as a drop, I give it to whoever on the team is not already hooded (a rare thing nowadays anyways).

And sure thing - I will probably come on MSN/Skype this weekend to catch up with some of you. Good to hear from you man :)

I'm not entirely sure how it works, but I think it may be sort of a glitch?

With the new "tagging" system present in the EOC, I think it is more than a little ridiculous that a person who does not have the requirements to kill a certain monster can still "tag" it and receive the loot after somebody else kills it. This seems like way more of an oversight than something that was intentional by Jagex, and so hopefully they fix this sometime in the near future. I know many other people have fallen victim to this in various scenarios around the game.

Also, according to the other team mates it sounded like nobody else saw the bow lying on the ground except me (the one who killed it) and the party host (the one who tagged the monster). I am definitely going to do some research about the new drop system and how Dungeoneering drops work to make sure I am fully prepared for the next time around. I've also heard from other people in similar situations that the item is supposed to be visible on the ground, but when you go to grab it you get a message that you cannot pick it up for 30 seconds because the drop belongs to whoever tagged that monster.

If anybody has any information on this feel free to post it here or send me a message.
