How desperate is jagex? LOL.

 

Yeah, because jagex noticed they are losing players. they need to make a strategy to keep runescape alive.

 

I wouldn't say that Jagex is desperate, well - not any more desperate than any other game company. You should always have marketing strategies to try and lure more players into playing and purchasing membership, its just good marketing really.

 

It's basically two memberships for the price of one. They don't really lose anything at all, since it doesn't cost them to give membership to accounts, so it's all profit. Plus they have 2 active members on RS, which adds to the total, basically, this is only logical especially after the rapid decline of players.

It's a marketing technique, all companies try it at some point. It's not because they're desperate, but because they want to make more cash, and can you blame them

iPhone keeps posting halfway through, so ignore all the edits.

 

Its all about money. Who knows how many more years they got left in the game.

 

If it works for them why not? Successful games like WoW also have a similar recruit a friend program.

 

Many games use this feature and it works pretty well. As KMJT said, if it works for them they should keep on going with it.

 

I wouldn't say they are too desperate, cause even though 70-90k players online is nowhere near what it used to be .. that's still a good number of people ! But they are trying every way they can to get themselves more profit (sof, solomans etc .. as we all know) I don't think any of it is healthy for the future of Runescape, time will tell.

 

Exactly, just because they are employing these techniques it doesn't necessarily mean they are desperate, besides, they need to bring new blood into the game or it will just die out...

 

I wouldn't say they are desperate for money... Like so many others have pointed out, its just a good marketing ploy that will bring in extra revenue for them.

 

Actually, they have a shareholder meeting coming up.

 

This is great news for farmers. Membership at 50% basically.

 

I could be wrong, but I personally think more people quit when they removed the wildy than from the EoC update. I don't think their any more desperate than other games, they just want more money. I've found that in a business it is more profitable in the long run to offer a free bonus to customers. They seem to be using this method to hopefully become richer than they already are.

Example: I can sell 1 person a membership for 7$ a month for the next 10 years. OR I can give them 1 month free in order to get 7$ a month from them AND a friend for the next 10 years.
