Abyssal runecrafting help

I'm gonna start rcing in the abyss does anyone have a ballpark estimate as to how much defence I need or would be preferable?

EDIT: and do I need a certain mining level?

 

You don't really need a specific level as there are other obstacles you can use instead(like using thieving for the eyes one). You also don't really need defence but it is a great help. Just wear something that is both decent in stats and isn't too heavy.

 

so is it possible to lets say go into the abyss with 50 defence and nothing on but have food in the bank?

I leave my bot on for 12+ hours at a time, I only have 45 defense. Also used it on a 1 def pure and it worked fine to.
