Have you played a self-sufficient account?

I have been considering starting up a self-sufficient account in F2P just for some fun.

What I mean by self-sufficient:

- No trading with other players (no G.E either) or my own accounts.
- No picking up items other than natural spawns and monster drops.

Perhaps no use of certain runescape stores aswell?

Has anyone played a self-sufficient account before? How challenging was it? What restrictions did you place on yourself?

I did this for a three months, mainly since I didn't know any better. I played like this when I started Runescape back in 2004 (possibly 05).

It wasn't that hard, however I would never go back to it. I did trade with stores which made it easier. I got all the way to I think full addy doing this. Fun times. I got such a huge rush upgrading armors .

 

Yea before sythe thats all i did really. I found it really fun and challenging.

 

Ya, my first account that I still play on it but not really often is self-sufficient. I have to admit that playing like this is pretty hard, when I switch to my main, it's totally different since you can just go to the G.E. or something like this.

If you have free time, I really suggest it, really fun if you have spare time A lot of challenge like this ^_^

I bet armor upgrading would be a pretty nice achievement since you'd need to get mining and smithing up pretty high.

 

My grandfather (he plays. crazy right?) plays like that. He makes anything he needs and hates buying things from other people. The only time he spent money in the Ge was when he did Construction I think. It kind of annoys me sometimes though because he asks me to do quests for him a lot but he doesn't let me buy any of the items -_-. Now I tell him all the items I need before I start and he gets them haha. So yeah it's a pain in the ass.

Idc if Jagex sees it because hes never broken any rules and whenever I've played his account I was at his house and he logged himself in for me.

When I used to play legit, yeah. But that was back in 06-07 lol..

 

back in 07 me and like 5 friends made new accounts and then just lived out of the wildy for a week or two, was fun, but got very difficult after a couple levels.

 

I sorta think that that's what they wanted RS to be like when the Gower's first started designing it. Tbh the only difference that trade makes is that it gives you the ability to manipulate the system and get the better hand over others - it is entirely possible to be fully self sufficient. But if you removed the player interaction from the game, would the game really be worth playing?

I can't say I've ever played like this, as within my first few weeks of playing I remember killing chickens and selling on the feathers to random people in Lumby.

Guess the only time this ever occurred was on Tutorial Island for me!

 

Don't see why you'd want to do this...?
I mean sure it's a challenge but a waste of time really.

It'd be fun. And even more of a challenge if you turned all communication settings to OFF (trade, public and private chat, assist).

 

If you still find RuneScape fun, I guess it'd be a challenge.

It's not like once you finish with the account, it'll be worth more? So you've got to consider the huge amount of time wasting during quests - trying to obtain the items etc;
