Free trade - Downfall of Runescape?

I've noticed that the few months Jagex has reinstated free trade things have quickly gone downhill. Every world is crowded with bots. The economy is at it's worst. And there are more scammers than ever. The only way I see Jagex fixing this game is to Reinstate the trade limit or completely rollback every account and the entire game in general.

Reinstate the trade limit resolves in half the population of RuneScape quitting... Again.
Rollback every account resolves in everyone quitting.

Both of these = Jagex/RuneScape make less/no money.

    So I doubt it'll happen.

Meh, they've got more players than ever and are making money?

So do you think they care?

    04.

And they should care. Their game will quickly come to an end if they don't do something.

Stopping bots is honestly the best chance jagex has at a successful future. However, the only reason they haven't fixed bots yet (they could easily if they wanted to) is because a large amount of their income since the free-trade update is from memberships being bought by bots. it's all about the money. just like everything else.

RuneScape will not come to an end. If anything, people are buying P2P more to get rid of bots and scams.

It doesn't get rid of it, but it's a less of a chance.

It doesn't matter what they do about bots. Long term damage has been done and something drastic has to happen.

This game is on a fast track to coming to an end despite the massive amount of cash they're bringing in.

They can start by banning everyone who uses free bots/taking down the free bots websites.

    P2P Bots can stay.

The game is not going to end. There's too many people playing, and too high of an income, for the game to come to an end.

All bots would need to go. P2P / F2P regardless of how much money they are making through P2p bots.

But like i said previously, Jagex refuses to make a stride towards getting rid of bots due to the sole fact that they make a huge chunk of change off of them.

Yeah, I agree. I was 100% for reinstating FT/Wildy; however, now that I see what it has done to the economy and the game, my opinions have changed...

There are scammers all over RS, all over Sythe, bots all over RS. You now have to bot to keep up, not just to get ahead.

Other than having significant items which are untradable - obtained through quests/mini games or whatever I don't see how any game could realistically prevent drastic inflation over a 10 year period. It's just easier to make cash now than it was in 04/05 which may have been done purposefully by Jagex to address the fact that people may not want to or have the time to grind for hours on end to buy a weapon or piece of armour.

For me personally Runescape is more or less the same as it was in 04. The only differences I see are; One, you don't have to choose to woodcut for a month to buy some cool stuff and two, (which is a major difference for me) there is no real sense of achievement in the game anymore. You used to work away for sometime just to buy a whip or barrows armour or whatever it is. Once obtained people would show it off in front of others and people would literally admire you for having such great armour. I'm a pker and back in the day spending 3m on lobsters for pking was a pretty big thing (even though i'd make back 3x what I spent) and there was a sense of achievement in being able to do that. There is not anymore. The only thing I do now which I find somewhat 'cool' is hoarding rares.

Avoiding scams is pretty easy. I'm guessing it's just their incessant chat that is annoying you so turn off your public when going to the G.E.

Botting is 'meh' it's been so prevalent for so long now that it's hard to care anymore. It does detract away from the achievement in gaining a 99 skill though as they're so easy to bot now - especially if you do the skill legit.

Most of this = My opinion on things aswell :)

Jagex are constantly banning bots people are making new accounts for teh botting all the time. They should IP ban botters.

Full bandos is the new full rune and full Torva is the new bandos lol. Yeah gold farms style botting defiantly increased alot since FT has been re-introduced. But if there wasnt bots you would be paying 4k per rock tail, 300 per pure ess ect..

very bad idea. the only thing that will fix this game is a harder crackdown on bots, bots, and bots!

Well, I'll put it very very simply ignoring most factors.

The eradication of free trade lead many people to leave.
The reinstatement of free trade lead few people to leave.

The eradication of free trade didn't bring any old players back, and didn't create any influx in the RS population.
The reinstatement of free trade DID bring old players back, and DID create an influx in the RS population.
