Merching Clan

Hey guys, I have a feeling that this has been asked before but..
has anyone ever thought about making a merching clan? Like the good old days where a bunch of people buy an item in multiples to increase the price and just dump after a couple of days or so. This used to be done a lot in between '09-'11 (I believe it was) but I don't see much of it anymore. I honestly don't mind starting one if enough are interested. I was just wondering because I'm sure that there are many pros and cons for this method, but which of the two overweighs the other?

 

The only reason those sorts of clans were able to function was because the GE had max and min caps on it, meaning that no one could buy or sell outside of a 10% range. Without that cap, there is no way for clans to monopolize a resource. Even then, with the exception of the old jewelry pump and dump merch, there still had to be "victims" that the people at the top of the pyramid scheme profited off of.

 

Thanks for your response and I totally understand where you're coming from.. the only reason I brought this up is because I remembered performing this a while back in a Private Merching Clan with the minimal usage of the G.E. (due to the caps) and it worked perfectly fine. One simply has to purchase supplies that are extremely high in demand, and rely on the prices I suppose that's on Zybez/RS Forums (sites that many RS players rely on).

With the right leaders and/or incentives, that could easily be fixed :laugh:

Honestly, you could just make a bunch of accounts and post offers on Zybez to raise the price.

Merch clans won't really work in 07. Prices are all over the place and fluxuate like crazy. You're better off just solo merching.

 

Lmfao, yeah… that's probably true.
I just figured that having 50+ members would be really beneficial. By that meaning, buying an item at an amount so large than it could easily be dumped the next day.. as opposed to solo merching which would take a couple of days or so.

 

it won't work, everyone would have to buy out an item and hold it. you'd have to sell people to invest basically in your idea, hold it, no leaks, etc. very hard, but not impossible!

 

merching clans usually result in failures through price crashes and scam clans.

 

I rlly think for it to be successful the owners and high ranks must dump items at the same time as normal members. In most merch clans in the past higher ranks will dump all their items first before telling the clan to dump and eventually many members can't profit as they can't dump it when the item is crashing. Even so such a thing will be hard due to the nature of 07

 

Regardless of what kind of leader you have, there will always be those who lose from merching as the price will crash and their items won't sell. Now, that is, if you can find a good leader who can minimize the lose, good luck with that.

I remember merching back in the day, it was great and I'd make a lot money. I always dumped before the clan as I couldn't trust the leaders as I knew what they were in it for.

 

I would be interested in merching with you another one we could easily do this on is IKOV it would even easier than with GE

 

Merch clans dont work anymore. As Xier0 stated, successful merch clans relied on exploiting the GE and its caps and limits in order to exponentially raise the prices, then dump the item (typically as junk in trades with a rare to get full cash value).

I personally owned or was leadership in big merch clans before they nerfed the GE. It doesnt work anymore. Better to try to become a host.

u can do that alone, just make 10 zyb acc to manipulate prices, lol
