Why Do You Play?

I'm one of those people that hated EOC, and quit RS for about a year. I came back (the addiction is real), and started to learn. Revolution helped a ton. Now, I love EOC and can't imagine the monotonous back and forth how the game used to be.

When OSRS came out, I was like "ohhhhh ahhhh nostalgia will be awesome". I mainly stopped playing because I had to start over (and I'm so close to maxing atm).

But then when I decided to play an alt while I max with my afk skills left, I realized that OSRS isn't the OSRS I knew, and therefore it really isn't OSRS. All that is the same is the quests and most areas. There are so many new training methods, random items and unlockables, it's more of a testscape than OSRS to me, because it's not what I used to play.

So why do YOU play? Because I don't play

 

Some people don't realize that a game cannot grow if no content is added. It will slowly die out and become stale. I play when I can because it's fun and kills time.

 

I play because:

-It's simplistic. I know 99 percent of the game and feel comfortable playing it.
-The community is more tight-knit and willing to do things together, not obsessed with huge xp gains and being anti-social.
-There is an actual challenge in gaining levels again. Yes, EoC is nice in that you can get ridiculous xp amounts/hr, but it also severely waters down how the achievement feels, at least for me. For example, I got 94 slayer back in 2007 and didn't train it again until the past few months (on and off). I was appalled to see that I could double my Slayer xp in 1 percent of the time it took back in 2007. My 99 slayer cape just doesn't feel as legit as if I were to get it in OSRS or had I gotten it in the actual year 2007.
-Its content is controlled by the players, nothing gets added or removed from the game without a whopping majority vote. While RS3 has power to the players polls, these polls are handpicked by Jagex and are usually just asking about dead content.

Overall: They're two different games, I enjoy both versions. Runescape 3 is a hell of a lot less of a challenge, though, than Old School Runescape. In some ways it is just less tedious and that's okay, such as being able to string all bows at once or throw logs into a Bonfire. That I don't mind much, but then you have things like TH and prismatic lamps that make things a little too easy. These are things that I HAVE utilized, and could be avoided...but why bother when everyone and their granny already has the 99 you want anyway? Might as well get it for yourself as a personal achievement. Achievements in OSRS are a lot more well received because A: They are usually way harder to get and B: Not many people have gotten them yet because the game is young.

 

The goal of the game is simple. Get 99 everything, finish all the quests and side quests, and get rich. There is much more and since I'm one of those people that try to beat every game, it keeps me coming back every time since I'll never end up actually beating it

 

I played 07 cuz I thought it would be really awesome and that I'd be this beast pker. I quit after like a month lol... I just play Rs3 now.

 

Quit playing 07 a few weeks after release, I prefer 2012 rs or rs3 over 07 for the most part.

 

I played 07 for sometime, I found it quite fun then I got hacked (long story), in the end I came back this june its not bad tbh

 

the game itself is basically the same as it was in 2007, with a couple of player voted updates and whatnot. What's different is the community, which is composed of angry trolls and scammers nowadays. We all wanted to see this game with the nostalgia goggles on, you know, playing with your friends until 2am trying to finish D Slayer and stuff; but people change, and it's more about efficiency and competing rather than actual fun now.

I like playing 07 for the pking community, I enjoy going out pking with a group of friends.

 

Strange I don't get that sense at all really. I have a lot of friends that have come back to the game and are really enjoying it again. And I've had sessions playing with my friends playing into the wee hours of the night. I'll agree the community has its fair share of selfish trolls and scammers, but that's always been the case with Runescape.

I'm really happy 07 was released. Also gives people an opportunity to make some money with 07 prices being quite healthy.

 

I play runescape because it's fun and I love merching.

PKing only. AGS/staff of the dead ruined it though. I hope they aren't going to poll dragon claws/curses because then I'll quit.

I just like to merch . I cant keep focused to train haha.

 

Mostly for the nostalgia and profit but it sure as hell ain't for the exp rates

 

I prefer the old combat system.
