This playing legit business is hard lol.

well since 2010 my primary source of income on rs has been buying gold. After looking back at how much i've actually spent on gold i've decided it's time to play legit and i'm struggling!

my question to you is have you ever made the transition from buying gold to legit? any tips on easing the transistion?

 

Just make sure that when your training a skill for a certain goal, always choose the method that makes you money rather than the method that costs you money.

I was one of the few in my group of friends who did not bot and played legit. I have bought 40m off one of them just once to keep up with them. (I work fulltime and my friends are still studying, so they have lots of free time in the summer and I haven't) My idea was that I was going to train my att/str/def/range skills legit and make profit while doing it, and only use the bought 40m to get 94 magic, 70 prayer and 50 construction as there's no way to actually make profit with those skills. I'm now actually richer than most of my friends because I'm so used to saving up money and not spending it on silly things such as staking and I don't risk getting banned for botting gp either.

What you can do is create a second account to woodcut on while you're training your main. I have a lvl 3 account with 90 wc atm which I use to cut magic logs while I get 99 strength at ankous with bones 2 peaches. I make a little profit on my main and I made about 18m so far from selling magic logs. And I'm using the lvl 3 account to scout for me too whenever my friends and I PK in the wilderness.

 

I was into buying gp especially when gambling was big, it's hard to get past buying it since it's so quick and easy! But since I started playin 07 again I haven't bought any gp and I've just been training some semi-profitable skills. I have been doing a lot of spinning bowstrings and thieving as of lately but usually I fish/cook and woodcut for profit. It definitely takes longer and you don't get the instant satisfaction of having that green cash stack at the click of a button, but it's like Leejjon said, once you do have your cash you made legit your not as tempted to spend it on the pointless things in rs and you tend to save more of it. The temptation to buy is still there for me haha but I've gotten around 1-2m a day so far and it's finally starting to add up! It truly makes the game more enjoyable once you get going! I think he means he plays both accounts legit at once, since both Ankous and Woodcutting are basically AFK methods.

 

Do some slayer. It will stimulate your brain from the different variety of monsters you have to kill and you get some good drops. Remember to do clue scrolls as well.

 

Do something you really enjoy that makes money, like pvm or something. Doesn't even have to make a lot. Do that for a bit, then do something that may be boring but makes much more, such as running nats. Rotate em, that way you can have fun while money making.

 

I'm doing the opposite currently played legit 2004-2011 now i've come back and have been purchasing gold to move things along. It's not hard to play legit, at all, kind of like what the people above me are saying though it's almost a personal preference. Lately on my pure for example i've been buying ores to superheat into steel bars, which i then turn into cannonballs, and then i either sell them or cannon somewhere that supplies decent drops (elder druids, dragons ect) pretty much doubles whatever you invest while training magic, range, and smithing. On my barrows pure back in the day i would do lots of barrows trips, green drags, and as a noob flesh crawlers. I find a lot of people find combat related things are easier to grind. However more information about your skills, accounts build, ect would help tremendously in making suggestions as I'd feel silly telling a level 3 skiller to go to barrows for example.

 

You should try switching from buying gold to botting to playing legit. It's like trying to stop smoking. Its hard but its possible

 

You should do risk fights.

 

PvM is the way to go.
