Prayer on your pure..?

What is your opinion on this, to have prayer or to not? Pro's/Con's, personal experiences wanted.

Making a pretty typical pure for myself to start playing with..
60 attack, 99 strength, 1 defence, 99 Magic, 99 Range.

Prayer= ??

 

with 99 range get 44 assuming you intend to use it.

I'm a big fan of 31 prayer but depends on your ability to quest and power level without prayer, i.e no bandits / chinning etc.

 

If you're fully maxing out like that, 52 is a must. You'll be fighting people with AGS's, whip, etc who will also have smite. At lower levels, (50-62ish) I find it more beneficial to stay 13/16 prayer from quests, then once you hit mid 60's to get 44 for eagle eye. Once you hit 70ish you should get 52.

This is just what I remember, as I personally haven't played in 3 or 4 years.

 

Why is smite so beneficial for pures? It just lowers their prayer level..?

I'd assume so you can get them to 0 quicker to possibly get their protect item dropped?

I can train without prayer no problem. (Private scripts.)

Questing will be another issue.. May just end up paying someone to do them for me if I find them to be too difficult.

I'm primarily just looking at end goal, should I have it to have a better account or will those few extra combat levels hurt me more than they will help me.

*Maxed without prayer = 76 Combat
*Maxed with 52 prayer = 83 Combat
*Maxed with 99 prayer = 89 Combat.

*Maxed being reffered as 60a/99s/1d 99m/99r

 

PKing aside, without 43 prayer everything - leveling, questing, etc - will be miserable. I'd highly, highly recommend getting 43, but I don't think 52 is necessary.

Smite drains their prayer so they can't protect an item. Honestly though, it doesn't work often at all. It'd probably take you quite a while to gain more from smite than what it cost to get to 52.

 

Smite is very situational and greatens your chances of pking items of high value. Rarely does it do it successfully which is why the most I'd go for is 43.

 

tbh it depends what kind of account u have. id say if your maxed on any pure 52 prayer is worth it but if not id either stay at 1 or go up to 31.

 

Most of pures and zerks have 43/44 prayer nowadays. I deal with them everyday in my fire cape service

 

Are these pures that are high combat level? Or close to maxed pure stats? Not sure if they are just waiting until they have 99 str to get 52 or they never plan on it.

 

44-52 prayer is great for questing, training and pking at higher levels (smite/also don't forget you'll likely be facing higher level opponents where you may need prayer to escape/fight them).

The negative aspect would be increased combat levels, but overall I believe it's a worthy investment and you'll enjoy pking/training and what not far more.

 

They are very random. They warry between 1-45 def and 61-99 ranged. Some 1 def 70 ranged pures got 80+ hp, some got 50+, it's hard to say.

 

As many have said, it really depends on what kind of account you want to make. Are you going to stake? If so keep 1 prayer for lower combat. Are you going to PK? I would get 31 at the MAX. That's just me because at that combat you are going to fight zerker pures and range tanks who are going to rip through you regardless if you have smite or not.. I find it best the lowest combat possible for pures are more beneficial in the pking world. If you want a fire cape then 41 prayer is needed not necessarily 43. ALTHOUGH I will add that prayer DOES indeed increase your hits while pking and such. If I were you I would go 31 prayer and see how that goes. HOWEVER I would make sure that you quest it so you can get the items you might need (Avas accumulator, Ghostly robes (DT) I find that lower combat level pking is more fun than main pking. BUT if you are looking to make money the higher combat is better for that. Good luck with your pure and happy scaping.

 

I for one have kept my prayer at one so far as shown in my progress log. I will likely be trying to get 43/52 prayer here shortly as it just makes some things easier like chinning, and some quests.

 

Drento and Sellerman got it right. Having at least 43 prayer helps out so much with questing and all the other stuff that deals with combat. It was always so dang tough doing quests as a pure with level 1 prayer but I guess it was worth it in the end since it was less popular.

 

high range = 44 prayer
low range = 43 prayer

high mage/high range = 45 prayer

this is what i find the best

 

45 prayer imho, smite is overrated but prayer is generally worth it so your options aren't limited in wars / deep wild pking and also training

 

I would go for 45 pray since you most likely need the protection prayers for quests, training, pjers, etc.

 

Why 45? Protect prayers to up to 43.

 

So if you were just melee, you would toss up between 31 or 52. 31 is definitely required. The 15% str bonus is crazy and will rip people without any time (once again, just talking maxed here). Since you're getting ranged too, however, you would look at 44/52. Personally, the one combat level between the two, I think, makes it 100% worth it. Not *only* for the prayer drop to smite whips / godswords, but also due to the fact that they will have to constantly drink prayer pots too, adding another advantage as they're worrying about prayer too. (Crazy hits in pure fights, constantly 20-30s, massive smite drains).

I know I kind of rushed over this summary, and it isn't portrayed in the most logical sense, but you have a couple of options
31 if you're predominantly meleeing
44 if you don't care for smite
but, if you're getting 44 you may as well spend the one extra combat level and get 52.

 

I agree with the above.

When I was pking melee based and 70-80 range I had 44 prayer (also easier for fcape).

When my range got higher (90+) and my melee hits were getting bigger, I decided that one combat level for smite is no biggie.
