Obby Mauler... Range or no Range?

Hey everyone, I'm making an obby mauler which is currently 73 Strength, basically 1 everything else with roughly 60HP, which I plan on selling once I get around 80 Strength.

Would it be better / worth more to get range aswell?

At 73 str and 60 hp you can get 50 range levels before getting another combat level.

At 80 str and 60 hp you can get 54 range levels before getting another combat level.

I'v always chosen to only get range and mage needed for mith gloves, and to get the slayer staff. You can 1 tic pk with range, but melee pking is fun, and still able to get kills.

If you enjoy melee pking, just stay away from range till you get bored..but if you enjoy range to melee, then there is no harm getting like 50 range or something to use knives to maul

 

I'd get range and mage maxed, before leveling cb. Range would give you more hp=sustain

 

Definitely get range. Obby maulers suck ass if you are trying to just melee, you're only hope is that your opponent doesn't safe, because there isn't a way to do more damage than your opponent is able to eat.

Range allows you to use things like Rune Knives and a Magic Shortbow. Keep in mind that range doesn't suffer from the 1 attack accuracy setback, your attacks will be very fast and accurate, with the maul being your knockout weapon when you 'risk it' or get a few quick hits with knives.

 

Range hits more than melee since you have 1 attack, so definitely train range

 

get ranged,people say to cannon it but i wouldent i think the higher the hp the better. while pking use knives to obby maul. ive pked alot of kids like that.

 

Ok yes you should get range, but do not waste your range levels by just training, get 55 slayer with a cannon to help you so you can wield slayer staff. Slayer staff is essential to any obby mauler and 55 slayer isn't to difficult when you can use a cannon.

 

Like Soup said above me, work on slayer which will benefit you on the way and can help make some cash for you

No point in having an obby mauler without range.. It's way too slow to be effective on its own.

 

Well range is recommended but if you don't then ofcourse slayer staff is the best for ya

 

max uc an have is 66 range before range based, take this into account, tbh id get like 60 then pk from there as it does all add up.

 

Absolutely get range. Darts/knives -> obby maul is where it's at. Plus you won't gain combat and you gain some HP levels.

 

Between slayer staff and darts you should probably go ahead and get the range. The pros outweigh the cons easily.

 

HP levels are very valuable on pures. I'd suggest getting the range up as long as the cost doesn't outweigh the potential profit.

 

I would get range, but watch how many levels you end up getting. After a certain level it will start effecting your combat level. I think the max range level you can get at 99 strength is like 70ish.

 

Not to mention simply having 40 or 50 range lets you wear d'hide chaps for better equipment. So even if you were to only melee, having range is beneficial.
