OCD with gaming?

Okay, now I'm not sure if anyone else has this problem, or if it's just me, but I seriously name some help because its pissing me off big time.

Now I've never really had OCD ever in my life. Like I mean like that stuff you see about people doing 3 spins before entering a car or something. But I've only just discovered that I've got this bad habit when it comes to gaming that has me restarting games multiple times for no reason, or generally making gaming for me very dissapointing and driving me crazy.

Now the first problem I have is when it comes to a name. Now once again, I'm not sure if this is some OCD thing I've got, or I'm just seriously way to picky. But a name for me has been the biggest problem I've faced when it came to gaming. I can't fucking figure out a name I can have. Now I know it's a simple as "choose a username" *types in name* "press enter" *plays*.. But for me, it's the biggest deal. Now since I've known I've had this problem, I've always needed to have a name, that I can use for everything e.g Steam, Origin, Forums, other games that don't require Steam or Origin e.g LoL, WoW.

And then it goes worse from there, to me being satifised with a name, to then me googling the name only to discover it's taken on twitter, or facebook, or somebody else is using that name on League of Legends or something, leading me to not using it.

I mean, this problem seems very stupid to most people, but I've wasted so much money on games on various steam accounts, because I can't keep a goddamn account over it's name.

I love gaming, but this problem is really driving me insane. I'm not sure how to overcome it because I don't even know what to do. I think my main problem is that I'm trying to look for a gaming name I can take, that nobody else uses it. As I feel if I take that name I'll feel like I've stolen it from that person or so on..

So I'm posting it here to try get some insight from other people who may know what this is like, or know how to stop it.


And please, I know, and understand this shit seems so trivial, but it's a problem for me. So respect that.

Use your creativity to come up with a complex, yet subtle username. I can see how this can become a problem to some people, but at the end of the day it's just a name you're referred to as in game, nothing special about it.

 

First, it isn't OCD. OCD has become a term a lot people throw around because they're picky and need an excuse to feel justified. There is nothing in a name other than a means of communication. It isn't going to make you more or less skilled in the game and it is wholly irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. My suggestion is to find a word, term, character, or historical figure and use that. My name is based on a Roman Emperor who was, by all historical accounts, insane. If it is a problem for you it is because you're making it a problem in your head when it is something that is totally meaningless.

 

Name wise, hey I'm in the same boat as you. Random names don't work for me. I'll sometimes regret half way while playing that I picked this name and sometimes I have to go to the extend of re-creating the character just for a better name. I know how it feels like, what I usually do, is browse through the net to find ideas and some names about what I plan to name my character. This works 99% of the time.

I try to get a topic that I want my character name to hover around. When I'm serious about a game, then this habit will kick in for me.

 

Two options.
Get a very unique username (for example, Wolvenstein)
Or, I'm being serious here, get over it. A name will only get you so far. Pick one you like then if you gotta use a different name for somewhere else, hell it doesn't matter in the end and life goes on.

 

This. As someone who actually suffers from it, it really frustrates me how people throw it around not knowing what it actually is.

Odds are you won't come up with an original name that no one has ever thought of before. Just because someone has it on facebook or twitter, doesn't mean you can't use it on a game. Add numbers, letter or a word to it. Just remember you share your actual name with tens, hundreds of thousands (maybe millions). So what if you have the same name as someone else on the internet?

 

You probably started having this when you bought the account from me as you wanted to take over my old username. It's my username but someone have it as a name too. If I were you, you should have two gaming names, I have 2 gaming names and they are Ronskie and Convult, someone bought the Convult username from me on Twitter for only 25$, I wish I asked the buyer for a higher price as the username Ronskie can't be used because the account that has it have been suspended.

Wolverine, Wolvenstein, Mr Biscuit should work.
