    Any tips dealing with Anxiety?

My Anxiety is like an on and off thing sometimes I go months without any Anxiety and then all of sudden it comes out of nowhere and I stay up all night because my of chest pains or what ever...

It's never been a serious problem for me though I still go to work and go about my day I just deal with it.

Anyways what's a good way to relieve Anxiety sometimes I go out walking my dog or talk on the phone with someone try to get my mind off of it I go to the gym too but not everyday 3-4 times a week...

Please don't post if you've never experienced anxiety because you have no idea what it feels like...

    Any tips dealing with Anxiety?

I'm with you mayn. I have anxiety all the time. Usually which causes me to shiver uncontrollably, however most of the time it's not very noticeable on the rare occasion it is.

Mainly when i'm about to give an exam or gamble a load of money. Or give presentations in class.

My advice would be to first see a doctor about it (i haven't either) and see what he says. If it's a severe case he'll probably prescribe you some medicine.

If that's out of the option you really just need to notice what situations are making you anxious. When they do, and you're under your anxiety attack just think about why are you anxious? Is there really any reason to be?

You need to get out of your comfort zone, and go through with it, repeatedly. It's gonna be realllyyy tough at first but it's gonna pay off in the end.

    Good luck

    Any tips dealing with Anxiety?

I'm a veteran in the us army and have anxiety and ptsd. I take Xanax and remuron for mine but when I feel it coming on I like to try to keep my mind on other things like talking to someone or watching TV but mine the worst when I try to sleep the only thing that helps then is the meds. It just something we have to live with man

I think it is best to go on a consultation with your Primary. Usually he will ask a lot of questions and maybe do a physical exam.

The think that matters the most is that you are very honest with the questions. No matter if it is work related and or personal or something in between, every little detail could mean something.

I can relate because i have it to. only with my it comes with heart palpitations.

I normally go outside and lay in my driveway and just think about the sky/space to calm down. It seems silly, but it works well for me.

You just need to find a healthy outlet or something that can relieve your anxiety. Something that can prevent attacks before they happen. It takes a lot of work and it seems impossible but there are things that can help, you just need to find the things that help you. Find something that you can do everyday, something that won't be a disruption if you're in the middle of something. Something simple yet effective. If I'm at school, I can still think about the sky. I honestly have no idea how it helps me but apparently it does lmao. It's a big interest of mine so that's probably why, it makes me happy to think about and it also helps me forget whatever is making me anxious, y'know? I have endless thoughts and questions about it so I get lost in it when I'm feeling really bad.

The gym is a common outlet for people as I've seen. Try making more time for the gym if it helps, or take your dog on more walks.

I'm not the best with helping people with things like these, as I'm still trying to figure my own out. But best of luck bud, it fucking sucks. I wouldn't recommend it but if you really needed/wanted to, you could pursue medication. I've heard many good and bad things about getting on some prescriptions. Some say it makes them feel drained and unable to function like they normally can, but at the same time I've heard that it's made the attacks go away so that's all they care about.

I have lived with severe anxiety for over 10 years in my life, only beginning my early teens, I just manage to deal with it.

When I get an anxiety attack I try to hyperventilate, makes your body think that there's something else going on because of your survival instincts. Should help calming you down.
However this might not work if your attacks are too severe. It could be that hyper ventilating is actually the reason you feel anxiety.
If the latter is the case, I have done a course in freediving. This is basically learning breath holding techniques to dive. Most people, if they breath normally they are slightly hyperventilating. To prevent this you could teach yourself to breath out for twice the amount of time that you breath in (in 4seconds, out 8 seconds)

I got some beta blockers from my GP (local doc) and whenever I feel some kind of episode coming along I pop one and I calm down enough to make it tolerable without breaking down. I just asked for them with the excuse of exam stress and they didn't have a problem re-subscripting them to me over and over since they're not a major drug to take.

I think if you definitely have clinical, diagnosed, actual anxiety (I stress because it's an easy thing for people to self-diagnose) then you will probably need to go to your doctor or a psych. specialist for either some drugs or some therapy to get over it. Most of the time, this is the case.

The best, non-go-to-the-doctor advice I can give you is when you get these episodes to breathe in through your nose, for 8-10 seconds and breathe out through your mouth for as long as you can make it last. This slows down your heart rate and can bring you round to a relaxed state. Some people find being alone with relaxation sounds/music helps, others need company - find what works for you. And by company, I don't mean someone saying "it's okay, there's nothing to worry about", that doesn't help. Just someone who'll be with you and stay with you til you're calm.

One of my real life friends is having a remarkably similar situation to you. He's found that reading a book on one-minute meditation exercises helps a lot. It teaches you to focus on breathing and outlines what kind of thoughts can trigger the anxiety attacks.

gaba works pretty good. look into it. makes you feel calmer and less stressed and its a natural supplement you can get over the counter.

also, meditation helps. do it before you go to bed for at least 15-20 minutes and you will sleep like a rock.

I even have the slightest Anxiety when it comes to gaming or even small competition. I just hate that feeling. What I do, take a deep breath, walk around and make myself sweat. Also I drink water most of the time.

That will kill off the Anxiety most of the time if not always.

    Any tips dealing with Anxiety?

I strongly agree with this post from my own experiences. When I hide indoors like an agoraphobe and don't put myself in uncomfortable situations my anxiety is worse. The uncomfortable situations are just as awful at first, but over time the feeling of immense failure begins to clear and I begin to learn to and feel like functioning properly.
You will begin to notice what makes you anxious if you put that intent in your mind. Be mindful of your wish to be free of anxiety and make positive attempts to change your actions or thoughts to free yourself. Be mindful of your actions and thoughts which cause you anxiety. When you can examine these things objectively and see these triggers without judgement you can see that they aren't so bad, or that you can do or think such-and-such to help.

Being mindful has a lot to do with meditation. In my opinion mindfulness is the essence of meditation. Meditation is where one releases themselves from thought. One feels and exists only for this moment. One will think and will drift from the sensation of no-thought, but one can be mindful that they drifted into thought and come back to no-thought. All you have to do to begin meditating is get in a comfortable position and begin to focus on your breathing. It's very hard to let go of your thoughts. You may even begin to think about thinking about thinking about thinking about letting go of your thoughts or thinking about nothing.

The trick is to just make a mental note of your thoughts (when they occur). For example, you're trying to meditate, when suddenly you begin to think about how you're getting to school tomorrow. You then realize that you drifted from focusing on your breathing, so you accept that as a fact without any good or bad connotation and resume focussing on your breathing.
Focus only on your breath. In, and out, on repeat. You will be aware of the sensations of exhalation and inhalation without actually saying the words in your head "In, and out". You'll know you're making progress in meditation when you accomplish this. Over time you will be able to hold this focus on your breath for longer periods of time. It is a muscle that must be exercised to perform well.
It is in this silence of thought that one can drift into non-drug-induded altered-states, and can reflect without judgement on themselves or others.

Medication can help for a multitude of reasons. It is in my opinion a tool just like meditation. It will not solve anxiety for you but it will make it easier for you to solve it yourself. Of course, always only take anti-anxiety medication on your doctors advice.

I hope that this post helps anyone who comes to this thread in search of advice.

P.S. This link provides some great insight into helping yourself change into a mindset where you can freely grow. I think this might be one of the most important intellectual and/or spiritual advancements that our time needs to make. It is a change regarding one's attitude towards self-growth and what thoughts and words to ourselves and to others can help breed a mindset of growth.
