    Im a burn victim

Hey guys, I feel like I should share my story so I can have people to talk to (also new to sythe so maybe I can make friends through this)

    Anyways,
On Saturday night, I was going to have a bonfire. Being a college student with a new girlfriend, this seemed like an amazing idea. I live close to my college so I took her to my backyard for the bonfire. I forgot I had poured gas on the bonfire (done about 5 hours prior). When I went to light it, I was standing next to a gas can, and I was using a light stick. The leaves caught fire, and the gas can exploded. I was thrown about 5 feet back, and I now have second degree burns covering my whole face and right arm. I can no longer smile or frown. Eating is a struggle. I am peeling slowly, and I am said to have a recovery back to normal (no scarring) within 8 weeks. I'm here just to ask you guys for emotional support as I literally look like awful right now, and I will post a picture later. The pain feels like you are standing very close to a fire and instead of pulling back, someone is forcing you to stand close to it permanently. 24/7. Almost like someone is holding a lighter to your face/arm all day long.

I read your introduction, welcome to Sythe I'm new as well. Sounds very painful and it would be a rough adjustment and I imagine it would be traumatic at first. Just remember you're lucky in the sense you survived and expecting no permanent scarring.

First of all, welcome to Sythe! I check this forum quite frequently along with a bunch of other people that will help you.

You can't look at these things as a bad thing, 8 weeks will be over before you know it. On the bright side there's no permanent damage, no scarring is pretty lucky I'd say.

Hey bro! Read your intro, you seem like a pretty cool guy :), I would recommend you to keep your faith strong. Be the normal person you were! If you played games 24/7 then play games 24/7 if you were outside with friends then stay with your close friends! No one can talk crap anything about someone going through pain bro.

Ouch, the pain that you described is awful. I hope the pain starts to lessen sooner rather than later. Like others have said, at least there's no scarring. It could have been worse, so be glad that it wasn't. Don't be afraid to still go about your normal business: go out to dinner with your girlfriend, hang out with your friends, go to class. It was an accident, and it would be entirely silly if someone were to give you a mean glare because of it. Even if you're skeptical that someone might, they're simply rude and not worth your time anyway. So just go about your business, because it surely isn't anyone else's. Good luck in your recovery, and I hope you feel better soon. :) Feel free to send me a PM anytime.

You gotta be more careful with fires in the future mate. I'm not trying to harp on you, but just think a bit before you do. It's always fun to make big 15 foot fires, just as long as you're not apart of the fire.

On the emotional platform, it'll heal. I once had poison oak across my face and it kept re initiating itself, lasted for about 6 weeks. This happened my third week into high school as a freshman. It sucked, but the world keeps on spinning, the newest news about ISIS or a new social media comes out and people forget ^^

Some people have burns that either never recover or they have to have skin grafts, you are going to make a FULL RECOVERY WITHIN 8 WEEKS! Do you know how lucky you are dude?

Don't worry about how you look now, it was a lesson that you learned from. Thinking about it and getting upset isn't going to make you heal any faster. Focus on what's important and don't let your burns affect you.

You're EXTREMELY lucky to have escaped that with no expected permanent damage. I know you don't exactly feel lucky atm, but you'll look back on this and realize how much worse this could have been.

How are your friends/girlfriend handling this? I'd hope you would be receiving support from them throughout this ordeal. It's a slow road to full recovery, but remember, every day you're a step closer.

Honestly I think you will easily get though it. I used to be a firefighter and I have seen whole bodies being charred. 2nd degree burns is a blessing. Also you should never use an accelerant to start a fire. You should learn better fire starting methods. It is very dangerous to use fuel.

Don't worry about it. I once absolutely shattered my legs and wasn't able to walk or move for a year (after a year I was able to use crutches). I thought it was terrible since I knew all my friends were out having fun and partying it up without me and I thought no girl would want a guy who couldn't walk. After I had recovered and walk better (I'm actually a swimmer now and used to fence for team USA after I broke my legs) and it's as if it never happened. It'll all be put behind you soon. I wish I could have recovered after 8 weeks. Be happy and look at the good in life :) At least it's temporary.

Hey guys! Thanks for the posts. It's really heart warming. Here's an update: I went to the plastic surgeon, and I will need skin grafts apparently. I'm not worried about that, but it just means my heal time has been extended by an extra month. That's no biggie. Yall have made time seem like no big deal so who cares how long it takes. As far as my family and girl, they accept me and are trying their best to help me. My girlfriend has even done things such as surprise gifts and just is there for me. I love the support guys. It means a lot from everyone.

That's the things that are going to matter the most, is that you still have your family/girlfriend by your side supporting you through your recovery.

Hey guys! UPDATE: My blackened skin all over my face has peeled and come off. I no longer look like I just blew up on my face. However, it looks like I have been sunburned as I have raw skin. It's tanning nicely and within a few more days, I should look normal! My right arm is still badly burned, and it's still trying to heal. I'll see what happens to this within the next few days and post another update

Welcome to sythe my friend, a man once told me "Pain is only temporary, if it last for a hour, a day, a week, or even a year it will eventually go away." Just give it time, it may be worse now but things generally turn out for the better.
