How to stop gambling?

Hi,
I'm starting to realise s real problem I have with dicing. I'm 15 and have probably lost 5k irl money so far and I'm scared that this will carry on to my adult life. I never actually dice real money (poker) but I always dice/stake rsgp and then when i get cleaned I just buy more then get cleaned again so I buy more and go on and on. All this money is mine as I work at little cafe but I can never buy any IRL stuff since all my money is invested in rs gold. It all started when dicing came out in like 2011 or when ever it did. Once I got cleaned the first time I didnt know what to do until i found I could just buy more. Ever since then thats what I do. After recently getting cleaned for my biggest amount so far [150M 07 = $425] I have deicided I really need to do something. I guess the easiest way to deal with it on sythe is to try get a ban to the donor lounge as thats where I dice on sythe but idk how to deal with it in the game? Another problem is that if I ever make money dicing I need to buy the max amount I made back. Say I bought 50m went staking and got 75m and then got cleaned I would have to buy 75m again so I can get the items I got from that 75m.
So yeah any help would be great. Please no troll answers as this is serious and it will be reported for spam.

Self request ban from the donor lounge. In game, gunna have to show some self control tbh. There really isn't a good way to help as you can just PM whoever, etc etc.

I haven't played RS in forever so I don't really know how dicing works in game without someone reporting, but I would assume you need to communicate with the other player. Possibly get a perm mute on your account? It would suck but it would be MUCH harder to do anything in game, including any kind of gambling.

 

I think getting muted is out of the question. It wouldnt help anyway because most of the stakers are saying there offers and I trade them...

 

I stopped staking when my account got banned, I realized I didn't do much other than PK and stake really. Id try to sell the account for as much as you can and work on a pure or a pker of some sort, if that's your thing. You'll still have that feel of gambling when pking, but you won't ever gamble or lose as much in a small period of time.

If you want to keep your account, get rid of all extra gold. Buy necessary items, leave 2-5M in cash, and have equipment, food, potions etc. Stop buying gold, start earning it. You get a good drop and sell it? I'd try not to gamble, but if you do, you wouldn't really be taking money out of your pocket.

 

The funny thing is that my account is a zerker... Made for pking. Sometimes I stake because I get mad after dying like 4 times in a row pking and I know that I'm just losing all my money.

 

I know how you feel bro im in the same spot that your are i have a staking addiction and i cant seem to stop either i just keep pulling irl out and throwing it into a virtual game. if you find a way to stop let me know.

 

Well I'd never stake if my odds were any lower than my opponent. Do some bossing to blow some steam, or take a walk.

 

I used to dice a lot but after a particularly large hit ($900), I knew it was time to stop.

My main rationalization is because dicing on sythe is guranteed to lose you money in the long run. Although the chances may appear to be 50/50 at first, they're significantly lower due to rampant scammers.

 

Just look at your bank account. Don't you get the least bit shocked/pissed when you realize that you are poor and your life has been lost to runescape? A game made for prepubesent teens?

That's what I came to realize before I was able to quit playing RS. Maybe that is what you need. Pick up a different game that has NO RWT market! This will make it much harder for you to spend $$$ on the game.

 

You can suppress the urge by weighing out the cons and pros. It's hard to stop a psychological addiction.

 

End the problem at the source. Put all your money into a savings account that can only be accessed by going physically into the bank, and or, make an account and give your parents root access (they decide when to release funds).

 

Realize that you can never have enough GP. When you have little you want more. When you have a lot you will still keep going because "I will still have x amount left if I lose". Once you go down to to the x amount you will end up going" OMG, I was up so much, I have to win it back"!

You will never be satisfied no matter what. Sell some GP the next time you profit a lot and put it to good use IRL. That may give you a different perspective on Runescape pixels.

 

The problem with gambling is u always want more and when that when ur down u will want to recoup ur losses. The feeling of losing is terrible and especially when u want to recoup ur losses but end up losing more. The best way would be to sell ur acc that way u cant have access to staking. Get a ban from the donor lounge for bets on sythe. Engage in outside activites and hang around with more friends. Gl bro ive known u for a long time uve had some srs problems I rlly hope u can pull through on this one

Well buddy, first off, I must say congratulations actually for getting 5 grand at 15. Something to be proud of. I barely made $50 a week at that age.
Anyway, when I fought off my addiction (different addiction, concept is still similar) what helped me immensely was writing down all of the reasons that drew me into wanting to continue out the act. It's very important early to learn what your triggers are, whether it be browsing the donor lounge, and doing your best to avoid it/them at all costs. By constantly revisiting or going to your "triggers" you're only tempting yourself to indulge into the recreational act again, no matter what it is. Once tempted you're then in the realm of acting upon these thoughts. Once you indulge you feel guilt, which further leads to penance of what you've done. This is called the addiction cycle and it applies to anything addicting you feel guilty for. Gambling is no exception, no matter how it is transformed into.

It's important of *ALL* things that you need to know despite your past mistakes that yesterday does not define you. I fell many times trying to get clean and it is no easy task. Be sure to only surround yourself with positive people that will help you through this. Distant yourself from anyone that triggers you or makes your problem seem small and unimportant. You need support through any kind of addiction. I lost a lot of friends while getting clean because I wanted to distant myself from anyone who doubted me or made it seem like no big deal. Some come back when they realized how they made you feel. I promise you that you've got to do whatever is in your best interest.

Thank you so much! That was very informative and constructive. The good thing is that it's not anyone that pressures me into gambling and all of them are always telling me not to. I don't actually know anyone that has said to go stake or something so I wont have to distant myself from people.

I have some disappointing news that I think I should come clean on though. I was pking the other night when I went on a 5 kill death streak and I had just had enough of dying!!. Didn't have any supplies to pk/pvm anymore so I just had stake. Lost my bank. Luckily it was only 8m but I think this is what I needed. I have shut down my PayPal account now and am trying to earn money myself ign. I'm sorry if I have disappointed anyone/if anyone cares but I'm secretly confident that this is the end with the shutdown of my pp.

What I learned from staking/gambling is I just get excited at the thrill of it, doesn't matter if I win or lose. What I would suggest is trying to find something else, while maybe staking but only 1m rs3 or 100k 07 at a time, so you don't lose a lot. And once you find something else to do, just stop staking entirely.

You have to look back on all the times you bought gold to gamble. Has it ever turned out with you winning in the long run? Once you realize that you'll never come out ahead and you'll always be down money you'll be able to quit. The chances of you making $5,000 back that you lost is really low. You just have to think that every time you invest money into gambling you're going to eventually lose, because when you're up you don't want to stop. Once you control you're gambling addiction it's really easy to control how much you spend gambling. I use to be a high roller the 1st year Dragon Dyce came out, and played 4/8 NL Hold'em on Sealswithclubs with BTC and in the long run I'd say I lost $15,000. I eventually just realized how stupid it was to keep gambling, because even if I was up a few thousand, I'd never make the money I lost back. And I'd end up losing it anyway. Once you realize that you're just throwing money away you'll be able to quit. Then every now and then you can put in $30-$60 and play for a bit and if you're up x2 then cash out, and if you lose then it's no big deal.

 

try calling up a gambling help site in your area, they will most likely offer you some sort of a program or you could talk to your parents about it and see how they can help you and request a ban from it all.
