    When you were...

When you were between 13-17, have you experienced depression and stuff like that? I don't know why but I have been experiencing it since I was 13 and now I am 15 but it's not that much anymore but I am still a bit depressed. Is it a part of being a teenager and do you think I will just get through this?

And I don't know why I feel sad sometimes because I always think of the past (childhood) and the only way I can be happy is doing fun stuff.

Depression doesn't magically go away when you reach a certain age. Think about the positives rather than focusing on the negatives and your mood will improve. Being happy is a choice.

Edit: Don't be afraid to get professional help if you feel like you can't help yourself.

Age doesn't really play a huge role in depression from my view. I think what really plays is what has affected your life thus far. I had no problems with depression through my teen years.

    Hey Ron,

Most adolescents and teenagers can feel down about themselves. Being that age is the toughest age because you're trying to fit in, figure out what you want to do with your life and trying to conform to pressures of peers, parents and even things like the media. What's important, is not confusing the struggles of growing up and being accepted with actual, clinical depression.

It is tough being young, and someone's lying if they say they never felt down at least once due to having a rough time dealing with all the emotions and hormones that suddenly start to feel overwhelming. Literally everyone has an insecurity or feels down about something around this time. Just some people are better at coping than others. You should focus on trying new hobbies, meeting new people and broadening your horizons and keep in mind that you have to put the effort in to get the end result out.

Actual, clinical depression is very severe. It's a chemical problem in someone's brain which can be so bad it can drive one to being totally and completely unmotivated to do anything and make them think of suicide and so on. I wouldn't throw that term around loosely.. if you think you really do have depression then you should see your doctor. But to me it sounds as though you're the typical teenager just trying to figure life out :)

I've had my time of being an emotional wreck, i think everyone does at a point during that age. As roary stated though, being down and really having a depression are two very very different things. You will probably get through this.

I'm 15 aswell and idk I've never had it. But most people our age get it from overthinking. If you just don't care about little things life goes by a lot easier.

And yeah we all had fun lives when we were a lot younger but you have to get over it now and get ready to become adults.
