    Am I the only one?

I hate looking at photos of myself and I also hate hearing my own voice on a recording, when a friend of me uploads a picture on Facebook, I tell him to delete it and he's going to ask why and he said there is nothing wrong with the picture. Is it just because I am not a photogenic person or not used with taking pictures?

I'm not a fan of pictures of me, but if its decent I would never complain about it.

I actually like the sound of my voice even though I don't talk a whole lot unless I'm close to someone.

I wouldn't consider it unusual though.

I hate pictures and my voice too. I guess the only way to combat it is work on your physical appearence to make yourself feel goood therefore look good like working out and eating healthily and so on.

Self esteem and self perception is all it is. Mirrors reverse us.

I mostly only like 2 out of 10 photos of me as I look grumpy in pictures but the majority of my friends tell me that I look attractive IRL but srsly tho I totally hate hearing my own voice on a recording.

My voice sounds completely different on a recording, makes me cringe.

    Am I the only one?

I've never liked having my picture taken for as long as I can remember. If someone posts a picture of me on Facebook, I usually remove it. I'm not sure exactly what it is really. I'm not good at faking smiles, so I don't really like a picture of myself unless it looks natural. I don't know. I'm not insecure about my looks at all and consider myself to be attractive, so that's not it. It's definitely normal though. You aren't the only one.

    Am I the only one?

I have felt the same way before but through my relationship I've learned some things. The photos that my girlfriend thinks she looks best in are not necessarily the ones that I find most impressive, and the same on her side on photos of me.

I read somewhere that your body naturally has an image of itself and makes you look better when you look in the mirror but when you see yourself in a photo your body does not make that compensation.

I always tell people to delete pics of me as well. I look different in pics and sound different over the phone or recording.

I don't care, as I'm not paranoid or insecure. If it's genuinely a bad picture, who cares dude?

IMO it's not so much that someone feels like they are 'ugly' in a picture or they sound 'bad' in a recording, it's just that people perceive the way they sound and look differently when looking in a mirror or talking out loud. Any time I see a picture of myself, or hear a recording of my voice, it's not that it sounds "Bad", it just doesn't sound/look like the way I think I sound/look.

While this is definitely based upon your low self esteem/poor self image some of it might actually be a trick of the camera. Different angles, distance and focal length etc can distort your image greatly. For example:

Yea I agree. Often I look different IRL, than compared to a picture. All to do with how it's taken, lighting, effects, etc. I can definitely see though, I look better IRL, than in some pics. I'm sure it's the same for most.

If this makes you feel any better:

Whenever I listen to recordings of myself speaking my native language, I tend to feel I speak my first language with a strong accent [only on recordings though!] and I have a much differently toning voice on records than I do IRL.

As for physique: It's just who you are. Everyone has shitty pictures - if you worry / care too much about it, it means you have a low self-esteem. I know it's been said, but you should more or less try to do what Roary said.

I dont hate looking at myself in pictures, if your more of a mirror person then you'd probably like looking at your pics. But if you don't, then you just feel wierd. Maybe its dueo to self esteem and self love. you put yourself in other's shoes and forgot about yourself or got to busy.
