    A rough patch...

Seems a bit silly posting my problems here but since I don't know anyone where I'm living at now, why not?

I just recently moved from the Midwest to Arizona for no particular reason. The decision was spontaneous. I was tired of the cold and no job opportunities so I packed up and moved to Arizona with no plan. Hired a moving company that, to say the least, raped me, and drove my car over 1,500 miles.

I found a nice little townhouse, $900 a month, quiet neighborhood in a large city.

This is where it all goes wrong..

The moving company quoted me $1,800 over the phone after giving them a detailed inventory list of all my things.
    >Showed up first Tuesday in May.
    >Told me it would be delivered in 6-8 days (realistically) but law says 15.
    >Unloaded all of my things to transfer to a truck and bumped the price up to $4,800.

Between gas and room - traveling myself, I spent about $1,000. Total, we're looking at $5,800 for this move.

After being here a week I decided I would start job hunting - driving around to businesses who were looking for Financial/Intelligence Analysts - it was going great!

On the way home Tuesday, from job hunting, I was in an accident that was my fault. I now have a $1,000 deductible I'm going to have to pay once the adjuster contacts me back, no car to drive, no way to job hunt OR get to a job if I'm offered one and two broken fingers.

Just to throw this in, I've been sleeping on an air mattress for a week.

Last night, my air mattress popped and I slept on the floor - this, to what I thought was my breaking point.

The moving company was suppose to notify me when my stuff had left their warehouse; I called today and told them "Keep my stuff there! I'm moving back!" - Well... It's already in Texas... No email, no call, no letter, no notification. I'm stuck, in Arizona.

I don't have the money to move back once my things are delivered. I'm not sure what is going to happen with the insurance adjuster, I don't know what to do.

I clearly mad a bad decision and now I'm suffering the consequences, extremely.

Ask mom or dad or a close friend to lend some money, work with what they give. I know it won't be as much as you need but its not like you can work now with 2 broken fingers right? It's the best you could do which will help immensely. How long is the recovery time for the fingers? I'm sure there's other alternatives to job hunting when you get well again, you don't necessarily need a car to do so.

Oh and why would they bump the price up so high after quoting the move to cost $1800? Get that checked out because that's not normal.

It's an unfortunate chain of events but you can get out of it. Good luck and next time, when you make a big decision like that, think and plan. "If you don't plan, you plan to fail."

Here is the problem..... it was a QUOTE, aka Estimate, "A Ball Park Figure"..... There is always jobs out there to be worked. But I would maybe turn to your friends or family for place to stay for a bit until you get your life back to order ( taking care of recent debts etc...) Good luck in life.

No, I suggest you to keep trying and doing what you went there for, ive been in similar situations with different things. Most of us are at least once in our life in a bad situation whether its relationships/jobs/education. Maybe it will pay off someday and you could meet a lot of new persons which could change your life, you never know, never hurts to try at some point you have to succeed right?

Sums it up pretty well. I know its hard to see any positives possibly coming out of your decision, but I think you should keep trying. You said yourself that there were no job opportunities for you in the Midwest, and that your job hunting has gone well so far. The current setback with your car is definitely rough, but I agree with the above posts. Keep pushing through. Not sure how your situation is with friends and family, but you could always try to borrow some money to pay your outstanding debts.

As for the $4800 charge from the moving company, I would definitely look into that. I know the $1800 was a quote, but their quote shouldn't be $3000 off. Also, you said they picked it up on the first Tuesday in May, which means you definitely should've received it by now.

    Good luck man!

    A rough patch...

I appreciate all of the responses - I actually just got back from making a personal appearance at some of the companies I applied for; Amazon, ING Group, Chase Bank, etc. I took a cab and wasted away some more money but hopefully I'll be offered a position.

The moving company only gave me an estimate, not an exact price. The dispatcher said it would be roughly $1800 with the detailed inventory list I gave her. When the actual movers got there (two Russians) they looked around and said I had more than I mentioned on the phone and it would cost another $3000. I'm sure they fucked me but I agreed as an impulse.

They have 15 business days to get here, which brings the date to the 28th - if they're not here by then I'll demand something be done with the remainder $800 I owe.

I just moved here, I've never been here before, therefore - I have no friends nor family here (only back home). I would never ask my friends for money and my parents, who are separated, are not financially stable.

I've got a place to live, I paid three months in advance so I have a roof over my head which I'm extremely thankful for. I was able to get an internet package for really cheap - $24 a month - hopefully I can use that as a way to search for jobs.

I've got a degree, graduated from college at the beginning of this year after six years yet nothing to show for it aside from debt.

I'm at a pretty low point in my life - you're taught to go to school, do good, get a degree, for what? You're either overqualified and they hire someone to do your job for less money or you've got no experience, therefore, no one will hire you. Well, how am I suppose to get experience if no one will hire me?

Anyways, I apologize if anyone thinks I'm complaining - more or less just trying to get all of this off my shoulders.

    Thanks for reading!
