No motivation to really do much?

I'm coming up on the end of my second semester of my freshman year at college. First semester sucked and I was depressed w/ really bad social anxiety. I got on Prozac and this semester has been a lot better (socially). I've been partying, meeting people and having fun.

Anyways, the thing I've noticed is I have no motivation / energy during the week. Like, my earliest class is 11 AM and I end up skipping it because I'm too tired in the morning. (Not that I don't get enough sleep, if anything I get too much). So far my grades are all around a B besides one class which i'm trying to get back up.

Any tips for waking up / getting motivated to go to class / crack down on doing school work? I need to buckle down for the next month or so and get good grades.

Ok, so firstly if you meant the too much sleep thing, it causes the same effects as having too little sleep, so there may be something there. Secondly, my best advice would be to get up and just turn on some lights. Your body responds to light, it makes you more awake and alert, ironically the last place we go before going to bed is a highly lit bathroom but that's besides the point. And once the lights are on it's just "fuck me i might as well get up now".. Also go to bed. with the intention of getting up bright and early. The "we'll see what happens in the morning" attitude, personally always leaves me just sleeping in. Also realize waking up is never going to be easy, but once you fight the urge for like ten minutes it is. That's about all I have, hope it helped in some way man. Good luck! :)

Alarm clock FTL - If your lazy at getting up this will work. Unless you turn off and sleep more >_< Finish school work as soon as possible, whenever you are free - that way you can get it done early in the day, and still have time to do whatever you want later on in the evening. If your paying out your own pocket for school, that would be my motivation to get my booty up and runnin'. You got it brotha, just go to bed earlier or at 12-2am at the latest.

The harsh reality: nobody is gonna go to class for you, nobody is gonna start your career for you, nobody will motivate you but yourself.

However, it could be the Prozac. It increases serotonin and can make you feel drowsy and that "yuck" feeling. I was changed drugs a few times to find one that had the least side effects for me. So, if you're sure it's beyond just you being lazy you should talk to a Doc about it.

I know you are looking to get motivation or energy, so this is something that needs to be asked (and I keep needing to ask myself [hypocritical right here]): Do you work out? If the answer is no, I might suggest trying to start working out - even if it is only a fifteen minute jog every two days. If the answer is yes and that you work out everyday - you could be burning yourself out.

What does working out do for those that don't? Well for one, it forces blood into and out of your body at an increased rate (as opposed to being dormant). This allows for better thought processes during the day, a better physiology - you will look better (and feel better), and finally; doing a rigorous workout before you go to sleep will make you sleep better at night! It's also a great way to alleviate some of the stresses from University.

Assuming you are living on a University premise, I would suggest that either you talk to some of your friends or acquaintances there and see if you can get in on a workout regiment with some of them, or go to the Uni's gym by yourself and hit the iPod and crank. Believe it or not - nobody really cares what you look like at a gym if you're there to workout. In fact, some people might take interest and start talking to you (it's another good place to meet people).

I'm gonna tell you right the fuck now, stop masturbating. You stop jackin one out before you go to bed and you'll wake up with ten times the energy you normally would, even if it isn't much.

Also, go the fuck to sleep at night. No bullshit excuses. 6-7 hours of sleep makes a world of difference compared to 3-5.

If you smoke weed, waiting until later in the day can help you wake up faster. You'll be exhausted all day if you wake up exhausted then go right into being baked. Take some time to chill out, maybe have some coffee or breakfast.

Maybe you should check your testosterone level, IMO.

Check your blood levels, poor B12 and iron levels make you feel tired even when getting enough sleep.

Eat healthy and start working out if you already have not. Build a regiment for the two. Keeps your mind occupied while stabilizing your motivation.

No motivation to really do much?

everyone is different..but let me share a little story about my motivation/life (dumbed down version)

basically once upon a time in highschool (fresh/part of sophomore year) i was too lazy/didnt want to do school work, so my grades tanked for the most part. i had like a few good grades but come 2nd semester sophomore year i was about 2.5 Credits defficient. i came to realization that i really wanted to improve my life and succeed and get things done..i applied myself and was able to graduate with extra credits (26 instead of 23 here :D )..

anyway my point is, only when and if your mind and body are set focused and ready will you feel motivated to make a change in your life..youve already taken a step by realizing you lack motivation at times..perhaps this is a good start for you :) hope all works out buddy.

For me exercise helps to keep me fresh it could work for you. Also when your feeling really tired get more sleep and as for grades I guess its more on focusing on your studies and getting your priorities right. Gl with everything mate :)

Eat healthy, go to bed at a decent hour, get outside(fresh air), and work out.
