Many people that I know online are aware I have a serious gambling problem. I often say I'm done and that I'm going to stop, but I always end up going back to dicing. The longest I've made it was like 3 or 4 months, which was good progress, but I'm very disappointed that I couldn't keep it up.

While money issues aren't the biggest deal for me when it comes to gambling (although, that is also a big factor), the emotional stress I get after losing a large amount of money is really quite horrible. After losing a decent amount of money, I'll be upset with myself, I'll hate myself, I'll think of myself as stupid and idiotic and immature, ect.

I've been gambling since April 2011, and after nearly 3 years, I think it's about time for me to realize gambling may affect my life permanently if I don't stop soon. I've lost tens and tens of thousands of dollars gambling, and I've spent countless hours dicing/gambling and many of those hours were spent upset. Why should I do something that I know will make me upset and lose money? It doesn't make logical sense. However, it's hard to just stop out of the blue, and I'm sure many of you can relate. After all, I wouldn't have this problem if gambling weren't fun for me while I was winning. That happy feeling is so strong that it causes me to make such stupid decisions over and over again, so I know I will be fighting against quite the opponent to achieve my goal.

I am starting college this August, which means my entrance into "the rest of my life" is approaching quickly. Sure, I may be able to sustain a gambling lifestyle when I'm backed by my parents money, but once I'm on my own, how will I be able to support myself? I need to nip this addiction in the butt before it turns into a real life problem, which means I need to take action starting now. I'd like to thank Anthony for making me realize this sometime last week when he told me it'd be a good idea to stop because of how easily it'll translate to my real life. Lots of people have told me that in the past, but the way he said it on teamspeak that day has made me think about gambling in this light every single day since then. Thanks Anthony, it really means a lot



What is the purpose of this thread?

• Overall goal of stopping my gambling addiction
• Provide an area where I can track my progress of each day without gambling until August 31st, 2014, and possibly beyond
• Make an area where I can receive positive thoughts from others
• Have an area where I can have people occasionally check in on me to make sure I'm keeping to my word
• Possibly inspire others to try similar life changing goals

Each day, I will be updating this thread in both the OP and in a new post, confirming that I have not gambled in that day. That way, I am accountable for each and every day, which makes the gigantic goal of ending gambling permanently much more manageable by breaking it into a day by day goal. The plan is to make it for 171 days without gambling, as that is the amount of days between today, March 13th, and August 31st.


How can you help me?

• Give me support of any kind. A private message on Skype, a post, a pm, ect. Anything will help
• Don't encourage me to gamble by asking me to do bets. This point is mostly for other dragon dyce hosts. I am often poked to call wagers- don't do that anymore.
• Offer me ideas on how to continue without gambling. Ie- ways to pass the time, what to do when I have the urge to gamble, ect
• KEEP TRACK OF ME---- Anyone who catches me being behind by a day will receive $10 from me via PP

I want to stop all forms of gambling. The majority of the gambling I do is in dragon dyce, and the rest is in the donor lounge. My goal is to stop the addiction from growing outside of the online world and to cease its existence here as well.

Hahah I used to always DD my rsgp then I thought of how much I lost and realized it's not quick money at all and just making it normally grants you so much more.

 

Try to find something to do that's unrelated to RS. Start off your college career early. If you are doing something computer related, try to learn some sort of programming language. If you are doing something else focus on that. I know it's not simple to just quit cold turkey, but that's your only option if you plan on quitting.
