    Alternatives?

    I'm currently 19, turning 20. I am lost. I currently work doing general labor for a house lifting company my grandpa manages as a division of his employer's contracting company. I work for three crews in this company: the House Lifters (lifting houses and laying them on top of the new foundation), the Masons (we lay foundation) and the Carpenters (if the client wants their home renovated). I have a little bit of experience in all fields, but nothing to specialize in. I'm not an apprentice, I do general labor and will not make 'serious' money unless I dedicate another 5-10 years in a specific field, and my back..

    I don't want to go to college because I'm too impatient to spend four years in an university so I can graduate and start making money when I'm 24;
    I lack the ability to see myself doing construction or working in the trades in the near-future.. the pay is good considering my education (high school graduate) in comparison to people with the equivalent/lesser, but the toll it takes on my body, the working conditions, and the limitations of salary long-term are all things that make me shiver;
    I do not believe our government has the right agenda therefore I will not enlist - in addition to this, the disappearing 'benefits' of the military (US) seem to be neglected by most recruiters unless you bring up specifics.

    After all is said and done.. I have ruled out college, working in the trades and enlistment in the military. I want to have a comfortable life where I can raise a family in the future and send them to college.. but I realistically do not see a route that I can do this without being miserable myself.

    Am I missing something, or should I just start playing the lotto?

    If you don't want to go to college, learn a trade, or enlist then there isn't many options left. You could sell drugs, but that is going to end up with you dead or imprisoned. You could live off the state, but that isn't really a comfortable life.

    If you can write you can be writer, or paint and be an artist. Those generally don't afford a comfortable living for a family though. You could start a business of some sort, but entrepreneurship is a hard road to go. If your family is wealthy you could ask for a loan and place some strategic investments. The cryptocurrency market is pretty hot right now.

    There isn't much of anything for people who don't want to do anything traditional or who doesn't come from a family with a lot of money already.

    go work in the oilfield, make $100k in a year working as a roughneck, don't spend anymore than you need to, move on up in the oilfield companies until you're only working like 1 week on 2 weeks off but still bringing home six figures, invest smartly, marry a girl, start your own family, retire at age 42 with $$$$$$$$$$$ in your bank

    it's that easy

    except working in the oilfields is tough work and will suck a whole lot

    Honestly, I'd go to college, as the pay is VERY good, depending on what you do. It'd make up for all of the small wage you can make now doing hard labor. If you are not going to go to college by any means, I'd think about what "Loyal to da game" said and think about oil fields. They make great money as well! Let us know how you're doing and what your gut is telling you to do. :)
