My mother just called me stupid.

Okay, I think this is going to be a fairly long post.


So my mother called me stupid because my dad called me down to receive something from him for Christmas. Both my mom and dad are divorced.

I am actually insulted by the fact that my mom called me stupid on account that just because she hates my dad and all, she called my actions and myself 'stupid'.


So now, the current problem is that whenever she ask me to do something, I reply back with 'Oh, I'm sorry, I am stupid, remember?'.

I am closing on my 15th birthday and she just thinks that I'm a still a 'kid' and that I'm just throwing a tantrum.

Not a single apology was heard from her, and I doubt I will expect any.

She basically is now threatening to cut off my allowance when school re-opens and stuff like that because I didn't apologise to her for being rude, which I find is ridiculous.

What should I do? I am too prideful to apologise to this wretched woman whom I call 'mother'.

 

You know, when I last heard about a similar case such as yours it will always work in your favour if you're the one to apologize to the adult. Eventually you'll need something, such as money, which you'll find to be a challenge to get if you're not in a working relationship with your mother.

This is just one of those moments where you need to have a heart to heart with your mother and explain how much her comment bothered you. As long as you are sincere and what-not she should understand and you can both resolve the situation.

Ultimately however if this does not work out it sounds like it may be something that you have to grit your teeth through and just apologize since at 15 you will still be dependent on your mother for a while yet.

 

Sounds like you're making a big deal out of nothing, and in reality throwing a tantrum. You're 15; relax and apologise. She's your mother. Regardless of the fact that she called you stupid (trivial at best), you should respect and listen to her. You're probably at that rebellious age, and as you said, too prideful. However to me it seems to be more so arrogance in relevant to you thinking that you're right and everyone else is wrong.

I think both Jack and you are right. Must be because of me starting to be rebellious.

 

You're best of trying to drop it. She was probably in a bad mood that day and decided to take it out on you. If she continues to leash out at you, than don't take it though.

 

Mothers are going to be mothers. So what if she calls you stupid, she probably doesn't mean it maybe she said it because shes pissed off it happens so you have to let it go and pretend like nothing happened just ignore it.. Just go and apologies and that's it end of the day shes your mother..

 

Exactly right. If she continues it you should probably tell your dad about it or get help some way.

 

If you don't think you did anything wrong, and you're not sorry for anything. Then tell her you're not going to apologize for something that you're not sorry for. She can't force you to be the way she want's you to be, you are who you are and if you're not sorry then you're not sorry, she can just deal with it.

I've had to deal with this same thing throughout childhood, being told I was going to be a loser, never make it in life, stupid, worthless.. etc. Best way to combat this is to prove every one of those statements incorrect, throughout your life. You will aspire to something, don't ever let anyone tell you different.

 

If you want to grow up and prove to your mother (Who raised you) that you're not immature, then think about what you're doing. You're openly insulting your mother for such a stupid reason that you deserve to be called stupid. Your not a man with age, your a man for the actions you take.

 

stop acting like a little kid, she obviously is upset as thinks you may like your father more then her.

Decided to apologise to my mother a couple of hours ago.

Thanks for the advice guys, I guess I'm just immature and have to re-think about my actions.

You are just a kid and you are just throwing a tantrum. Being sarcy and wide back is gonna do nothing but fuel the fire.. If you get offended at your mum calling you stupid then all I can say is GL in the real world buddy.

I'm sorry but it makes me sick seeing people unappreciative of a mother's job. You don't know how lucky you are - I'd give anything for mine back. Apologise, buckle down and respect what your parents say. It's the most important lesson you'll ever learn
