K, so I was just wondering if anybody's had this same sort of situation going on for them, and if you have any advice? I've pretty much asked everywhere else, and the answers are very different depending on who I ask.

I have been trying to get into the military for over 8 months. (I live in the USA) My application has been rejected by both the AirForce and the Army. I started with talking to an AirForce recruiter, and 4 months later, I got the call saying "We have better qualified applicants." Same for the Army; just took them about 3 weeks less.

I have 1 non-drug/ non-violent misdemeanor from when I was 17. And just some stupid legal crap from when I was a kid (Out past Curfew/ Cutting Class)

Anyways.. aside from that, there's really nothing else I can think of that would be so bad as to hold me back from getting into the military. I haven't been told why my apps were rejected either.

My height/ weight is fine, no medical issues, I'm actually pretty fit, and I have a HS diploma and graduated with a high GPA. Got an asvab score of 88.

I am wondering if anybody has had similar issues with the military, and if they were able to find a branch that would accept them? I'm thinking about putting in an app for the Coast Guard, or at least maybe trying to get into the Reserves. I have been told that all branches follow the same guidelines as to whom they want to accept, though.

Ahh, tbh though. I think I'm just out of luck; what with 2 rejected apps. But, I wanted to see if any of you had luck with other branches.

Have you tried calling them and trying to find out why you were rejected? I do this for job interviews (though a job and joining the military are two completely different things obviously).

If you could find out why they've rejected you that'd make things pretty easy + simple on your end.

Yea, you should find out why you were rejected.
I scored a 72 on my ASVAB and they're begging me on their knees to join because I qualify for so many jobs that a lot of people don't qualify for.

The average score on an asvab is like high 40's low 50's
Around a 75+ is where you're considered a genius and a 69+ nets you any job you want.

Good luck man, hope you get in if that's what you really want.
I'm only joining because I want money. :l

I have asked for reasons :/ Both times I was told by my recruiters that they didn't know. I was told that the decision is made by people much higher ranked then them.

I have no idea, honestly. Thank you for the luck.

well here's two things that I can think of speaking from experience... I got rejected from the Army for having too many school suspensions when I was younger.

    1. See if they will do a waiver for you and you can talk to a psychiatrist and get a psych evaluation done which is a good chance that you'll get in.

    2. Try joining the National Guard. They have much lower qualifications and when I got rejected I was thinking about joining the NG, but a Marine recruiter hit me up so I may go Marines.

I never had any sort of phyc problems, I didn't think I needed an evaluation. But, I did have plenty of school suspensions :/ I wasn't aware that they looked at those, so that's probably what happened.

I think I will just try for the national guard. Thanks for the tip.

Military is down sizing, or "right sizing" as they call it. I'm in the Army and it's all we hear these days. Getting in is hard nowadays, they want squared away guys not future problems.

However, recruitment NEVER stops. One thing with me, I spoke to a recruiter at first but he was bs, moved on to another, and they stopped at NOTHING to get me in (I had issues too).

My advice? speak to another recruiter in whatever branch you want to join, some are desperate for bodies to send to MEPs.

I never had psych problems either, but with problems with the law and the school suspensions on top of it, they just assume that you are a troubled person which leads to them wanting you to get a psych evaluation like me.
