My brother is absolutely useless?

Alright so my brother has is almost 19,And all he does it sit home,Play LoL all day and watch youtube videos. He never listens,Rarely Cleans,Doesnt Drive or Work and isnt trying to either. He says driving isnt a necessity and his speech therapist will get him a job. He has autism but i dont think thats an excuse to be lazy all day,And he uses that as an excuse. I really need to motivate him to actually work. Our family really needs extra money and he's the only way we can get some extra income to help out. What are some ways to force my brother to become productive? Im 16 myself and im eager to work and drive (Im already working on my provisional license) But yeah,What are some ways to get him motivated to be productive? I hid my xbox,I hid his computer plugs (He always fucking finds them though) And changed my the password on all iDevices at home,But when he has nothing,He just watches TV (I cant do anything about that really) Or plays with toys or something. Any suggestions?

 

i don't think he's useless, maybe when you go fill out job applications take him with you.

 

Honestly its going to be hard to change him as some people will use their disability to get out of doing ANYTHING. I would keep up with the hiding of the game consoles ect. I would also have your parent(s)/Guardian(s) sit down and talk to him about how important him working is.

Kroger hires people with disabilities to bag groceries, move carts, stock shelves and everything someone without a disability would do. It's not hard to find a job willing to accept someone that is willing to work hard.

A friend of mine has a brother with autism, he works over 40 hours a week at Krogers and is a shift leader making more money than my friend.

EDIT: To encourage him, make sure he realizes he will be able to buy and have more stuff with a job. Even if you have to lie and make it look better than it is.

 

A reality check. Get your parents to kick him out just to shock him. Hes been let away with it for too long that nicey nice wont work anymore. Let him see how he would be without your parents.

 

Don't know about this considering he has autism. It may be because he is afraid to form relationships outside. He is most comfortable inside and being that he has probably done so all his life, it's only natural to him.

Ask your parents to take him to a therapist or someone he can talk too to motivate him.

 

As a parent, kicking your kid out of your home is a hard thing to do, and since he got autism I think it would be even harder, even if it was just as a reality check it could change him in a bad way.

Try going out with your brother to do stuff in real life more, go to places with him away from computers and televisions.

 

The Autism can't be used as a long term excuse. I have no doubt it effects his motivation, but it seems as tough he could be more proactive.

Rather than try hiding the entertainment (xbox/tv) remove them all together, while doing so, accompany him to look for jobs etc, get him out of the house

 

I definitely think you should attempt to bring him along and do things outside of being stuck at home.

Help him find a job, I started working at the age of 16 and now I am attending college and working at the same time. He has to learn how to grow up, he's not going to make it through life playing video games all day.

He need a reality check. You parents should give him 1 month to get off his ass and get a job, or they kick him out.

At his age I was payin £200 a month rent to my parents and if I didn't pay that I was out. £200 is absolutely nothing compared to the bills I pay now. He's goin to get a shock but it will help him for his future.

What country do you live in? Depending on where you live, the government has services that find jobs for disabled people. It benefits employees as well because the wage is subsidised by the gov usually. Perhaps you could look into that and try get him to look into it. Good luck with it.

 

Get him to study the stock market, he can do that from his own bed on a laptop. Get that childwatch shit to stop him going on games sites etc. Get him started on ballbearings.com and when he profits start giving him money to invest in shares or something (small amounts) he may enjoy it, bit of inspiration, he may then enjoy finance or accounting or something in the real world
