    Snoring / Sleep Apnoea

As some of you may know from various drunken TC sessions, I suffer from serious snoring / sleep apnea/apnoea (depending if you're English or a yank).

It's depressing, isn't comfortable in a relationship and causes me to be tired in my everyday activities. I've booked appointments at the hospital's sleep clinic.

Despite the obvious lose weight (I weigh 17stone at 6'2) I'm comfortable with my weight, and so is my girlfriend. Does anyone know of any snoring remedies or have any of you lot suffered from horrid snoring and you've found something that works for you? The sleep apnea I can deal with, it's more the snoring I want to deal with immediately. Starting from tomorrow i'm on a strict diet. No shit, no fizzy shit, limited beer.

    This might help:

    Don't sleep on your back.
Drink some honey/milk before going to sleep.
Don't eat or drink before going to bed.

Try and train yourself to breathe with your nose, not mouth. Weight does play a factor so good to hear you're starting a diet. My dad always snores so it does get annoying at times.

Happens no matter how I sleep.

I rarely eat or drink anything before I go to bed.

Snoring occurs alot if you breathe with your mouth, rather than your nose. It also occurs alot more when laying on your back. The reason for this is you can breathe easier laying on your back, so your body tends to take advantage of the easiest way of breathing; and it does it through your mouth.

I'd recommend sleeping on a slight incline. I've done that for my gird (severe stomach acid) and its just a slight adjustment. From what I've heard some forms of snoring is from the relaxing of a muscle in your airways or something along those lines? Sleeping propped up should reduce the force acting on that airway from a physics perspective. Just my suggestion.

If you could deal with sleeping with a mask on your face they make a breathing machine that muffles your snores. Not sure what its called though.

I've heard of 2 things, the mouth piece that supposedly moves your jaw to open your airways or something like that, and then a certain pillow that sort of arches at the neck but also has something to do with the airways. Saw on infomercials so it could be possible they are both shit, but all I could think of :s

I know you already mentioned the lose weight aspect of it. I just wanted to chime in and say my little brother use to have a terrible snoring issue. He lost a decent amount of weight and it made a significant impact on his snoring.

Tested out those nose strips and they had a significant effect on it.
