    Tough time getting I.D

    Okay so I went to do my drivers test but apparently I need a guarantee signature from someone whose known me for two years and is working in a position listed. I don't know anyone in these professions listed because I bounced from school to school, rarely keep the same doctor or dentist and the people I do know are family and they cannot be related to me, so I've been told. "eye roll" -fought with some chick about this

    The only ID I do have is my birth certificate, manitoba health card, social insurance number and some bills with my name and address so basically zero photo ID. I can't even get my treaty card because my old one expired and I need two types of photo ID to get a new one! This is so irritating, I don't know what to do? I can wait a year and have my new dentist sign the gaurantee I guess but I really don't want to wait another year to get my drivers license. I really want to get my passport to go shopping and to go to Mexico this Christmas but without my drivers license for ID I can't get a passport. I live in Winnipeg, MB if anyone is wondering or if that helps. The reason why this never bothered me before is because when I did need photo ID I'd just use my treaty card and that'd be okay but now it's expired so I'm basically fucked. Do immigrants even have this much of a hard time?

    Why would you assume you need a drivers license to receive a passport? That is extremely incorrect, you can process one without.

    As for the photo ID to get your DL there are multiple things to do. One would be a high school or college ID, 90% of schools require students to have photo school ID's now. If you don't have one provided by the school most library's now give you a card with your ID. IF that fails you can open a bank account and receive a debit card with your picture on it (may take a few weeks).

    Nonetheless, the passport situation is bogus. I've had a passport for 8 years and I'm only 19.

    I didn't know that thanks! My mother is the one who is telling me most of this information I guess parents don't know everything like they seem to think so.

    Without ID parents are the ones who have to sign off on getting you a passport.

    Anybody can be your guarantor, it doesn't matter if you're related.

    Straight from Passport Canada:

    Eligible guarantors

    Your guarantor must:
    1. Hold a 5-year or 10-year Canadian passport that is validFootnote 1 or has been expired for no more than one year, on the day you submit your application;
    2. Have known you (the applicant) personally for at least two (2) years.
      In the case of a child, the guarantor must have known you (the parent or legal guardian who is applying on behalf of the child) personally for at least two (2) years and must have knowledge of the child;
    3. Be a Canadian citizen 18 years of age or older;
    4. Have been 16 years of age or older when he or she applied for his or her own passport;
    5. Provide the requested information contained in his or her passport;
    6. Be accessible to Passport Canada for verification;
    7. Live in Canada, in the United States or in any of the other areas where submission of the "in Canada and in the USA" application form is authorized (Bermuda, American Samoa, the Midway Islands, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands). It is not necessary that the guarantor reside in the same country as the applicant.
    In cases where provincial family services have placed a child for adoption with a family, the Provincial Director of Family Services, the Director of the Family Services Agency or the Director

    Family members

    A family member or any individual residing at your address may be your guarantor provided he or she meets the specified requirements. If you are the parent or legal guardian applying for a passport for your child, you cannot act as guarantor; however, the other parent can.

    How can they prove that you didn't just meet the person who you're supposed to have know for 2 years? Are they going to ask them what's your favorite color or what kind of bullshit is that?

    Can you imagine someone pulling you aside in an airport, telling you they'd give you $50 if you say that you've known him for two years so he can get a passport? You'd think he was a terriost and report him, right? Nobody's gonna lie about something like that.

    Okay so I am still shit out of luck because I have no ID with my signature on it. I called about getting my passport and even though the ID I do have matches up they're still not going to accept it because in my province they don't accept heath cards. I'm basically stressing every option here and no one I call seems to be wanting to help me it's all basically no no and no and good bye. I need to get something with photo ID and even then for my license they want a gaurentee signature from someone on this list of occupations and everyone who I know that works for any of those occupations said no. I basically need to wait another year and my teachers can sign it but that's total bull shit.

    I tried and talked to everyone, me and my mom just accepted as of right now I can't get any ID anywhere without having photo ID to begin with it's total shit but I don't know where else to go or who to talk to.

    Take your birth certificate and any other identification you have (health cards, etc) and get a Government photo ID. From there, you should be able to get your passport. Its not really that complicated.

    I highlighted what I have in green. I still don't have anything to prove my signature. They'll accept what I do have but I'll need a signature from a guarantee which brings back to the point that I don't have one.

    A signature from a guarantee? I'm not understanding what you're saying you need. If you mean you need someone to guarantee your signature for you (be your guarantor), then I'm pretty sure anyone would be able to do that, much like a photo guarantor.

    Did you ask them about how to go about doing it?

    Yeah, they gave me a forum to fill out and a guarantor forum as well and the guarantor needs to be someone off the list provided. The people listed were teachers, doctors, dentists, judges basically any good profession that I just don't know right now especially for 2 years which is required by law it states.

    Do you know anybody where you previously lived? You could always fax them the form and get them to mail it to you all filled out.

    Honestly, nobody's going to check and see if you've known the person for x amount of years. Just find someone trustworthy and have them help you out. Maybe pay them for their help.
