Heart Operation

Hi guys, well im having a heart operation on tuesday to fix a 1 inch hole that i was born with. Anyone had one of these before? What should i do to prepare? Any operation has a risk of going wrong, and with the heart, if it goes wrong i guess i die? Everything should go well though, im healthy apart from being skinny and i smoke a stick or two a day, and the hole ofcourse. . Any comments appreciated.

My mom has a rare heart condition (can't remember what it is called =X) something to do with her valves...She was never supposed to be able to have kids, she was supposed to be a dwarf and be dead by now...but her will to live is too strong =] She has had 4 open heart surgeries...They have a new technique where they go through the legs (she has had one of these and it worked wonders)....the other 3 surgeries were where they had to break all her ribs and open them up to get at the heart...

She obviously has survived them all...as long as you have a good surgeon I think you should be fine...if they have to break all your ribs though, you are going to be in pain..also if it's successful you should have a lot more energy after the surgery..

You should be fine, but I would not take your health for granted in the future. Quit smoking, begin exercising daily, and be thankful you have a youthful, healthy body while you can. Other's are not so fortunate!

 

No experience, but I just want to say best of luck, hope it all goes as planned.

I have no idea if these kind of operations are risky, but if it was a really risky operation they would have told you.
Let's just hope everything goes well and see you here after the surgery

 

Once again, thanks to everyones support. Im currently waiting for my doctors to bring me into the operating room. I got some special numbing cream put onto my hands cuz i hate needles :/ The doctors have explained everything to me, they seem to know what theyr doing. Hopefully, il post back here in a bit after the op Cya in a bit

Were you provided with information about the surgery? Like what they do, chances of it going wrong etc?

I do believe you'll be fine but i've had 3 different surgeries, i always ask for as much as information as possible before the surgery.

GL though man, should be fine.

BTW, does the hole in the heart affect you in anyway?

You'll be fine. Really. Try not to work yourself up before it. I know that it's a very daunting procedure, but they know what they're doing.

I've read everything. But since you posted this about a week ago you should of already been through that operation, many of us especially me would like to know how it went. Hopefully you're not dead. [:

 

Guess whos still alive guys Everything is fine now, im just in alot of pain and i cant do much. The first operation went wrong somehow and i was in intensive care for like 4 days, i didnt seem to be getting better so they opened me up again and fixed me successfully. Im on the road to recovery and i have left the battlefield with a large war scar on my chest. I will be semi disabled and cannot leave the house for a month. Internet got cut off while i was in hospital cuz my mum was with me so she couldnt recieve the bill. Il be without internet until jan 12 but i have my trusty xbox to play with until then I will be accessin sythe daily to browse around the forums via my phones 3G internet which is slow as fuck :/ but it gets the job done. My birthday is coming up, Jan 2, looking forward to turning 16 but i doubt ip be able to have a party due to me being incapable of walking around. Once again, thanks to everyone who has helped me thru this tough time, it helped me alot.

Even though I did not see your thread earlier I am glad that you are okay. Just make sure you try to avoid the ciggies in the future as they may affect your health, I'm sure everyone here wishes that you recover quickly and safely without any more problems.

Oh and while you are recovering try get friends or family to come visit as they can actually brighten your day if your feeling down. I'm sure you have caring friends which are happy to chill with you even though u can't move much.
