HTC Vive Pre sitting right next to the consumer verison. There's not many noticable differences.

Nice! I got to use the Vive at a game convention last week, played Giant Cop. It was pretty amazing to use, although I still think VR in general will just be another Kinect/Move gimmick.

Giant cop wasn't a good demo. I have the early access. Budget cuts was so fun to play though, can't wait for the fun game. Hover junkers and audio shield are great workouts as well. I see many uses of VR coming into place the upcoming years. There will be educational software as well, not just games.

How do you like it? I know you say it's amazing; but from someone who isn't sold on the Vive yet (also looking at Oculus and PSVR), why?

Do you think it (VR as a whole) is ready for adoption? I'm thinking of buying a Vive this summer, but I've yet to make up my mind. Currently have a PSVR pre-ordered and will cancel it if I end up purchasing the Vive.

How minute are the changes from the dev kit to the consumer version? Also, how much do you use it? Any eye-strain? How's the game library on it?

I've gotten bored of gaming, HTC vive brung that back to life. It's a new experience. If you're not too much into gaming, it can be used for other uses too such as educational (apollo 11). Ever wish you was able to actually be transported somewhere? Well, this is the closest thing you can get for now.

You ask me if it's ready for adoption. I'd say yes, it's ready for consumers. However, the price is too high for the majority but definitely worth it for enthusiasts.

Each HMD have its own pros and cons.

HTC Vive is the complete VR headset. Hand motion controllers are definitely worth it. Plus, they are advocating room scale VR. However, don't mistake that HTC vive can't do sitting games either. Anything oculus rift/psvr can do, HTC vive can do.
You get to look around, walk around, and touch things. In the future, there will be addons to track your feet, legs, and other objects using the lighthouse addons.

I'd like to furthermore say the oculus rift launch was a huge failure. People are getting their oculus rift until june/july because of a shipping delay. HTC Vive's were shipping out on april, and theres probably more HTC vive's out than oculus rift. Truthfully, you'd still get your HTC vive first before your oculus rift if you order now. PSVR comes last since it's not even released yet.

The oculus rift is $600 without oculus touch (hand motion controllers). Plus, you need to buy an extra sensor in order to do roomscale VR. We don't know how much touch and the extra sensor will cost, but I'd bet you anything it'd be around same as HTC Vive's price of $800 all together.

You ask about game content. Let's just say HTC Vive is partnered with steam, meaning there will be a lot of games for VR in future. I believe there are 70+ games out so far for SteamVR. Let's not mention that people are working an project to make oculus rift exclusive games avaliable for HTC Vive. By the way, Oculus rift is trying to make some games exclusive for the rift platform, that's fucking bad for the PC world.

Eye strains is not a problem, maybe if I'm playing for 48 hours or something. Motion sickness is a problem, however that only occurs on badly designed games. I use it for gaming and side projects (game developement). Plus, you get pretty damn good exercise after using the vive for a while.

The HTC Vive Pre (dev kit) is very similiar to HTC Vive. Why do you ask anyways? I own both, they're pretty much the same.

If you want to demo it, microsoft / gamestop is doing public demos. Maybe you can find somebody demoing it around your area to give it a shot. Afterall, there is a lot of money involved in buying any HMD device. $600 + GFX card (oculus rift), $800 + GFX card (HTC Vive), or PSVR (~$500 + sensor bar ($50) + PS4)

Either one you chose to go for, virtual reality is a blast. I just prefer the HTC vive because it's the complete package.

If you don't have the money to spend, or money is tight wait for 2nd generation in couple years.

Very nice, the HTC Vive has actually made me change my mind about VR.

I was intending to wait until 2nd generation, but the Vive looks so nice I'll probably going with it soon enough.
