How much are you willing to spend for VR?

Hey guys! Just wondering...

1. How much are you willing to spend ($) to have the new Oculus Rift in 2016?

2. How much do you think it will be when it comes out?

 

$300-500 for the commercial product itself, although I'll be waiting on a v2 before pulling the trigger on anything.

Obviously there will be other costs associated with it that I'm not factoring in.

 

$100.

 

Not sure if it's worth it honestly. Reminds me of 3d movies , too gimmicky.

Like 50-150$ maybe.

 

I'd spend a few hundred on something like Oculus/Morpheus if the content and experience was convincing enough.

If Morpheus is lacking in content, I'll likely end up building a PC for Oculus (again, providing the content is worth it).

I bought one for $3 for my phone on ebay or aliexpress I forgot and it works wonderfully great. If I was to buy a VR I would buy one for watching videos, not for gaming as I feel it ruins the experience.

As of the question, I'd probably spend anything if it's FULLY functional and operational (up to 800$ maybe)

 

Buying a cardboard box you slide your phone is not VR. You're putting a phone in a box that slightly changes the viewing angles.

Even so, your phone is still 100's of dollars, and its' graphics are going to make you sick. You need very high frame rates and a very high resolution to (help) ensure there's no motion sickness.


VR is going to be "pricey" for a while. Outside of the actual hardware, you're also paying for the research and time a company put into their product. VR is still practically in its' infancy stage and is being introduced to the masses for the first since the Virtual Boy (hardly VR).

As VR grows, older hardware will get cheaper, but the cutting-edge equipment will likely still be pricey. (Ex: PS3 functions and is cheaper, but PS4 is the now "modern" console. Yes, PC gamers I am aware the components are nothing like your rig).

You don't slide your phone. It stays still and those 360 degrees videos on youtube work perfectly. You can look around and everything by just moving your head (which moves the phone ).

 

I'd be willing to spend around 500$ total. If it's much more than the 400$ for an xbox one + madden, I'll just buy that instead

 

You quite literally slide - or place - your phone inside a cardboard box. It is just medium to connect you to your phone. What you are seeing on your phone when you turn around, whatever, is software utilizing the phones hardware.

This is in no way a VR headset, just a box using a phone that happens to have a VR app. The specs between a phone and the likes of Oculus Rift are hardly comparable.

 

If I can get it for like 50-100$, I'd be happy to do that I highly hope it won't cost more when it comes out

I've heard that that cool looking Korean sandbox MMO called Black Desert allows for Oculus

Looks pretty sweet so I'd probs go for that

edit: it's a little laggy though so I guess that could cause problems? I'm not too clued in on the first-gen capabilities
