I have a pretty eclectic taste in music but have been really digging americana as well as its country and folk brethren.

Primarily Slaid Cleaves, Hardworking Americans, John Prine, Townes Van Zandt, Hayes Carll, Corb Lund, The O's ect. Anyone else??? Please no top 40 pop country bullshit generic shit. Or pretentious hipster kids who say they like the shit and only talk about BAHB DILLEN. Gogogo

Oh shit, Townes Van Zandt is one of my favorites and better than Bob Dylan. Hayes Carll is absolutely hilarious. Old Crow Medicine Show are amazing. I live like 1 1/2 hours away from Bristol, Virginia/Tennessee and they have a huge music festival every year called the Rhythm and Roots Reunion and they have great Americana/Folk/Bluegrass/Blues/Oldschool RnB bands from around the world and I am going to head there this year hopefully and take in the weekend.

As far as country goes nothing beats the originals:
Hank Williams Sr., Johnny Cash, Merle Travis, Doc Watson, Steve Earle, and all of the other outlaw country artists.

Something I found interesting was Gothic Americana with bands like Slim Cessna's Auto Club.

I Like nitty gritty but not so much those other guys. Surprised you didnt get excited when I mentioned Corb Lund seeing as hes canadian.

Im super jealous of that festival. I love OCMS. Gotten into bluegrass as well.

Slim Cessna's pretty good but im not a bog rockabilly fan and most of his stuff os more that than anything. Still pretty cool , i really like the song "limon" . Its probably just the theatrics but they remind me of harley poe. Townes is seriously the most underrated song writer of all time. Bar none.

God, Seasick Steve is one of my heroes. He is an amazing song writer and musician period. He can make music with nothing. I've listened to him for a long time now.

    Also, he's blind.

I've been listening to a lot of Merle Travis. Probably top 5 guitar players and he played some great songs. Round, firm, and Fully Packed or My Fat Gal being two of the funniest.

Not a good recording, but definitely some people I would love to jam with:

Looking at them you would expect them to be playing blackbird raum. Strange seeing crusties busking but good tunes none the less.

Merle Travis is great, been listening to a lot of Marty Robbins lately. Gotta love the gunfighter

I am so lucky to be so close to several capitals of music. Knoxville, Asheville, Carter's Fold.

Townes Van Zandt > Bob Dylan any day. Cash is good but if we are talking country I prefer a number of other guys over cash. Joan Baez is good too, but like both dylan and cash highly overrated. I never got how she is regarded as some great songwriter when 90% of her stuff is "interpretations" (covers).

Anyone dig Guy Clark or Fred Eaglesmith?

I know Guy Clark. I love Cash, but as far as a song-writer goes he isn't the best that ever lived.

I'm getting a vibe off you that just because you think Zandt is better than Dylan everyone should throw away every Dylan album they own and only listen to Zandt. Iv listened to a couple of his songs and im just not into it. Sure dylan can be overrated and there is a lot of his stuff i don't like but i shouldn't be treated like some hipster because i enjoy his Music.

If you arent a BAHB DILLEN guy then dont take offense, It just irks me when people say "I love Folk!" and can only list Bob Dylan. Kinda like the "I love Reggae" kids who only like Bob Marely. Its a bob thing. And bob is still good, its just there is a perpetual circle jerk surrounding him and his music that I absolutely dont want in on. Bob really irked me with how he presents himself in interviews and such, I really liked him before I heard him TALK. This is really where my dislike of Dylan is rooted.

And listening to a couple of Townes songs and basing a judgment on him is about as fair as listening to a couple of dylan songs and basing judgment on him. Townes isnt for everyone granted, hes pretty dark and depressing for the most part.

What other musicians are you into?? Listened to about half of alices restruant massacre while making this post.

I know what you mean by his attitude in interviews but his more modern interviews are a lot more toned down. Anyways here some random stuff i pulled from my favorites on youtube i pulled up.

Hadnt listened to Bryce Janey much before, on first listen I didnt like his singing but will try again a little later. He is certainly killing it on guitar though.

    Jim Croce is great.

Heres a few songs ive recently added to my playlist.

Im on my phone so cbf with more.

dont really care about country but psych, avant/freak or chamber folk is the shit

Persian or Hindustani "traditional" folk is also great, although i mostly just listen to psych folk artists who were influenced by it or use similar instrumentation rather than the authentic recordings.

    pysch folk

prog folk/rock / early "freak" folk

free jazz / avant folk / blues rock

chamber folk / avant folk / best album ever recorded 10/10

"loner" folk / psych folk / depressing

    free/drone folk

    American primitivism

cool Caribbean psych folk / early freak folk
