    Just saw it. Absolutely amazing.

It's received 9 film award nominations, and already won various others.

Suggest you read the book after/before watching.

The point of the movie is to believe what you want. For all we know, the tiger might never have existed and the real version of what happened was the one with the cook and all the cannibalism, but he made up a more 'fluffy' story. Or the tiger could be a representation of his fear leaving. The mind works in crazy ways, especially in circumstances of feeling trapped or stressed, especially when we are alone.

But I choose to believe that the animal version of the story was real. For me, they got onto the shore and he was saved by the villagers. The tiger left without even turning back and he was heartbroken because he thought they had bonded over the time spent together on the boat. But it seemed like his father was right all along and animals do not have feelings.

However, a scene (image of boy overlay image of tiger as the tiger stops walking for awhile) implies that the tiger did hesitate and think of the boy for awhile, before walking off into the forest forever.

To me, that was the perfect ending because tigers are not sentimental animals like dogs. They are a predatory species. To show that the tiger displayed any signs of affection towards the boy would simply be unrealistic. I think the fact that they tiger started to be trained (meal times, territory etc) and not attack or kill the boy was already a sign of growing respect and friendship - even in a very tiny form - towards him.

It's a beautiful movie, probably some the of the cinematography I have seen in a film in a very long time.

100% agree. Amazing CGI and cinematography. Great progression of events aswell. On top of everything, I thought Pi's acting was amazing.

2012 in general was a great year for cinematography. Skyfall, The Hobbit, Life of Pi were all beautifully shot in my opinion.

Can't compare the two. Both are completely different and good for different things.

Is this worth paying to go and see?

I am a bit strange when it comes to movies, i.e. I only generally like big known actors. From what I have seen the CGI looks absolutely insane but what about the acting?

Should I wait for a DVD release?

I saw it last Wed. and it wasn't as good as I thought it'd be after people piping on about how many awards it's nominated for.

I went to see it in 3D, although the visuals were beautiful - there was no real, 3D experience to add.. only two or three things actually gave you the impact you expect from a 3D film.

All in all, I found the story pretty boring and it dragged out a bit. Personally when I watch a film I expect to not want to look away - but Life of Pi had me day dreaming around the theatre and sighing to myself.

Watched it last Friday, holy shit it was amazing. I saw ratings on IMDB and general word of mouth, but it exceeded them completely, the CGI, acting, story, everything was beautiful. One of the best films I have seen in while.

Should I watch it? It looks so dumb, just like a drama/adventure as one man tries to survive...sounds lame
