Know any good Anime Movies?

So i've finally got a break and decided to watch movies I wouldn't have time to get into during the busy year.
I really enjoy fantasy type animated movies, my favourites are those from Studio Ghibli and by Hayao Miyazaki such as: Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, and Whisper of the Heart.

I've recently watched the movie "The Girl who Leapt through Time", and it was just amazing, and now my favourite movie. I'd recommend any of these movies to someone who wants to sit back and take in some magic.

I was wondering if anyone else could recommend any other movies similar to this type, or any movies in general?

Ah yes, I've watched that too. It is a really good movie, but it's so sad I didn't want to mention it. It's one of those movies you're glad you've watched but don't want to remember since the sorrow lingers.

Vampire hunter looks interesting, similar animation style to Ninja Scroll. Dead Leaves looks.. insane, kind of reminds me of The Maxx for some reason (maybe you might enjoy that, Nero) and yeah, any movie in general would probably generate a long list - i'll save that recommendation request for the summer.

 

Howl's of the moving castle is absolutely insane.

 

yeah, included that in OP ^_^ , basically anything by Hayao Miyazaki seemed like a great movie to me. Except 'Ponyo' was a bit lacking in the plot.

 

Yeah, Steamboy as well is a really good movie. Check that out if you haven't already. Seen it many a time.

Although I found Akira kind of weird for my taste, Steamboy looks pretty good - this'll be next on my list, thanks.

 

Cowboy Bebop movie is another good one.

 

Advent Children was a really good movie when I was young, but recently I've tried to watch it, and I'm not as interested. I probably just don't like these kinds of shows anymore, I hate a lot of anime out there, but I don't hate the genre. I STILL love Full Metal Alchemist, Spirited Away, and fake anime like Avatar: the last airbender.

 

I never got into cowboy bebop, guess it's just not my thing.

I also found FF Advent Children kind of dull, I liked the animation but it was a hollow plot to me. I also liked all of the latter which you listed, both FMA and FMAB, and I watched/enjoyed the entire Avatar series as well (Live Action Movie was such a disappointment though).

 

It's a shame really, the videogames have incredible plots

 

What about "My Neighbor Totoro" you've probably already seen it since you watch the other movies by Hayao Miyazaki but I thought it was really good. Also I was gunna watch Grave of the Fireflies but Idk which one to watch the animated one or the live action I heard they both were good.

surprisingly I haven't watched My neighbour Totoro - I've been keeping it off because I didn't really think it looked as "magical" from the trailer as his other movies did, and didn't want to be disappointed, but it's definitely on my to-watch list.
So far I've got 5-6 movies to watch. Also I would recommend watching the animated version of grave of the fireflies (didn't even know there was a live action one until you mentioned it). I can say the animation really captures every emotion very well, and just delivers a stronger emotional impact than the live action version could (i'm saying this after watching the live action trailer).

 

Yeah, Im probably going to watch Grave of the Fireflies right now, but I dont think My Neighbor Totoro was "magical" but it was still pretty good IMO. One of my favorite childhood movies lol.

 

Ghost in the Shell is an old favourite of mine, but many people found the movies boring because it's more about thinking deeper, rather than aiming to be watchable by everyone. It has a more philosophical nature to it in some aspects, actually. The anime series that was created after, however, was geared towards a more general audience.

If you've seen the anime series of Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuuutsu (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya) then there was a nice movie made as a sequel called Suzumiya Haruhi no Shoushitsu (The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya). Just watching the movie without watching the series won't make sense though.

 

Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph, Wall-E, Kung Fu Panda and many more that I know, but I think these should be enough.

 

Ghost in the Shell has that dreary aura I'm trying to avoid, but The disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya seems like a perfect movie to watch for me. (The trailer alone is confusing) I'll read the background beforehand to help make sense of it.

I'm gearing more towards japanese animated films, although those types of films were nice to watch when I was a bit younger.

 

Ergo Proxy, I'm surprised no one has suggested it yet.
