    Paypal Dispute with ID provided

Hey guys, I have a gold shop here and I just recently started accepting things other than BTC, namely Skrill, Paypal, and Western Union. I was under the impression that if a buyer provided a government issued ID along with sending a payment on Paypal (which included "I have received the goods, any charge back should be considered fraud"), I should be able to win the dispute. So, I'm sure you already know what happened, buyer buys gold off me ~$300, two times using Paypal, and then recovers them both. Now, I think I should be able to win this with Skype conversation pics, video proof of delivering gold, the message attached to the payment, and ID (conflict is claimed to be "unauthorized"), but am I missing anything else that can help my case. I have been deterred from using Paypal from the longest time and an issue like this came up within a week. Can anyone with this type of experience please help me increase my likelihood of winning this and also prevent similar situations. Thanks.

Also, on a side note, the buyer lives in my state roughly 3 hours away, is there any legal action I can take against him if Paypal doesn't side with me?

    Don't just dispute it.

Call up paypal and it'll already raise your chances of winning.

giving id practically wins you the case (in my experience).

calling paypal also raises your chances of winning.

you can get he/she to email you " I Have bought and received virtual goods" but make sure the email matches the paypal email, so then what happends is can't claim its unauthorized since you got the email and id. Goodluck.

Thanks for all the help guys! It sounds like I should just call them and then I will have a good chance at winning this! If anyone else has anything to add that might help, I'm still all ears, I'm going to wait a bit before trying to resolve it as there is a 7 day period, so I might as well increase my chances as much as possible.

i don't think they care about the evidence of you delivering the gold etc because firstly your breaking their rules by trading virtual goods and secondly they can be easily faked. However you've got their personal information for the transaction so i guess you're all good.

    Best of luck, Bako Buy

If they do it through the bank, they will most likely win.

ID only helps prevent "Unauthorised" Payment disputes.

A lot of people don't realise this is different from a general dispute in which it can be battled out in the resolution centre.

The ID is almost useless in itself without also having a "Paypal Email Receipt". On large orders get the buyer to screenshot the receipt in their email inbox with their full name and email address visible. The receipt must match the transaction amount.

For example, it will say something like:

"Dear John Smith" at the top. - It's absolutely vital this matches the name on the ID card.

If it's a kid ordering with their parents paypal, refund them and decline the sale as they can always pull the "my son/daughter used my paypal without my permission" card.

It's always best to have some means of phone verification too if you can, as that's another step which helps prove the transaction is authorised.

Additionally to all of this if someone starts buying from you regularly, set a 14-day buy limit in which they can't spend more than that amount without any steps of verification. This makes it much harder for fraudulent buyers to operate as they can;t exactly say "oh yeah i didn't check my paypal or bank for 14 days".
