Trying to set up new router.

Hi folks, just a quick back story here..

Skip to TLDR if you just want to get to try helping me!:)

So we got our internet years ago from AOL. It wasn't till too long ago where I ran a speedtest and it said that my ISP was TalkTalk. After speaking to someone at TalkTalk we found out that they had actually taken over AOL (we were never informed).
We've always had problems with AOL whether it be constant disconnections or trying to get a query answered by someone who doesn't speak English as their first language. (Yes there are plenty of people who speak good English as second, but AOL are dreadful).
Though, for some reason we have always been sucked back into a "better" deal which ends up garbage down the line again.

Anyways.. I bought my own router a year or two ago because AOL's router was awful. Ever since it's been working a charm. Though, last weekend it started disconnecting at random intervals for a few seconds at a time. No big deal, but it was extremely frustrating.

At first I thought it was a problem on AOL/TalkTalk end, but when I contacted them they said it was my router, and that for being such a loyal customer they would send me a brand new one.

I got my new router on Tuesday and have been racking my brains since trying to set it up.

TLDR: Can't get my new router working.

I received my new router and it was a HUAWEI HG533 router. Along with this, I received a manual. There were very few steps to setting up the router and the steps seemed really easy.

The steps were as follows; (shortened)
    • Unpplug any devices from master socket. Fit a new microfilter (provided) into the socket and then plug your phone back in.
    • Plug one end of your provided ADSL broadband cable into the microfilter and the other end in to the back of your router. For this step I used my own cable as the grey one provided isn't long enough.
    • Plug the power supply for your router into a socket and connect the other end to the router. Switch the power supply on and turn your router on at the side.
    • Your router is now set up.

I then located my operating system and followed the next steps; (W7)
    • Locate Wireless Networks at the bottom right of screen. Click it and select your network from the list.
    • Press Connect and depending on which screen you see either type in security key (located on back of router) or press and hold the WPS button at the side of your router for 2 seconds.
    • You are now connected.

I have tried both methods above. Both get me connected, however they both say "No internet access" and I cannot load any web pages.

It was originally TalkTalk who sent me the router, however when I asked for help on the problem they told me that only AOL can help as I am their customer.
I then contacted AOL who after trying to help, decided the router was faulty and I will be getting ANOTHER new one.

If I'm honest, I don't quite believe that.

If you managed to last this long, could anyone please throw any advice my way?
I have been using the computer for games etc for years so I do have some fair knowledge around a computer, however I'm not a very techy.

    Thanks

Probably is faulty. Talktalk has a reputation of being horrible. At the end you get what you pay for.

Trying to set up new router.

It may be the router, as AOL suggested.

Did you try actually going into the router itself and tweaking settings?
