Photoshop Virgin: My First Photoshop GFX

Hello GFX Sythe, I don't know if you know me or not, but I have been offering free signatures for awhile, and I've always used GIMP to make my pictures (link to the thread is on my sticky, if you want to see my previous works), but today I finally grew the strength to let go of GIMP and step into the world of Photoshop. As soon as I opened photoshop I opened this picture and just let my imagination go wild, and I tried to see what I can do. With the little help of brushes, shadows, and a few filters, I managed to make this. I feel really good about this, and I like photoshop, although it's a little unforgiving at times.

Please tell me what you think. I think I went a little overboard but I am proud, this being my first ever photoshop pic.

Go bananas man! figure out everything you can while youre learning and try pick up good methods / quick methods and how to combine various tools and effects.

Decent work for your first time, im sure youll improve quickly keep sharing stuff youve done and asking questions.

Eh, I've really got discouraged tonight and shut down my free GFX services and everything. Kinda just given up, it's really a pain in the ass compared to GIMP. I mean, it took me forever to paste a transparent image and resize it the way I wanted! >_<

For a first time this is definitely awesome! I like the color scheme a lot and the signature makeup itself is great.

The only thing I can't say I'm too fond of is the written "V" it looks kind of like a U so I guess that letter of the font is a little awkward. Otherwise, good job man, keep it up.

my transfer from gimp to photoshop years ago was a pain too, but you'll learn. Also, less is more sometimes

 

Thank you. And yeah, I kinda like the font except for the "V". I was going to upload it without my username on it, but I figured it would be a good idea to do that so no one can say I didn't make it or steal it. You never know. >_<

I kinda wanted to just go crazy to see what all I could do. But true, I'll take note of that.

 

Really good, especially for a beginner

 

For a first piece it's not bad at all. I remember the first thing I made in Photoshop being far worse for sure. And don't give up on Photoshop just yet, once you practise more and check out some tutorials you'll quickly get familiar with all the tools and your skill will improve a lot.

Thank you all for your kind words. I'm really thinking about reading up on some books or watching tutorials on Photoshop and learn it more, I just wouldn't know what to look up. :/

 

Just go onto Youtube, search 'Photoshop Tutorial' and go from there, after each one just click on something you think could be cool and just see where you end up. That's how I picked up a few bits & bobs.
