    What would you do

If some random person came up to you and gave you a digital pad that allowed you to change anything in the world?

    Rules of the pad:

    No one can see it
No one must know of it's existence
It's only purpose is to change what's already available
You can't take credit for what you change
Breaking it will cause the pad to relocate and be given to someone else and revert what you change back to normal

If you break any of the rules, you will lose the pad and any memories related to it.

Let's hear what you would do

    What would you do

I'd change it so I will be immortal. I would change it so I would start a business and it would be successful, and making me ~10-20b in 3-5 yrs. When I have the 10-20b, I'd change it so Woody Johnson dies so I can buy the New York Jets.

    What would you do

I'd change the rules of the pad.

Otherwise, I'd change the numbers in my bank account and then live happily ever after.

I'd use it to change humanity in to something not quite so retarded and destructive.

    What would you do

Current society is not sustainable. People do not want to think of the long-term consequences of their actions. Further, we destroy a lot. Deforestation, mining, overharvesting, overhunting, etc., in other words basically everything we have a hand in involves destruction without repopulation to some degree.

It's inconvenient for society and government to think about actions that are sustainable in many cases, so it's swept under the covers until it can't be ignored, which will likely be when it's too late to fix anything.

    What would you do

I was asking for elaboration on any specific actions you had in mind to combat these problems. Seems like quite a dilemma to tackle with such a limited device.

    What would you do

It's not so inconceivable if it were aimed specifically at upper echelons of society and administration. It would flow on from there.

Edit: I just reread the OP and it seems no criterion is given for the SCALE on which the device can alter things, hence it's a moot point.

You think humans are retarded? We created technology that no other species has come close to, we are at the top of the food chain, allowing us to have high life expectancies. I could list countless things we have done. Humans are far from retarded. I can see where you get the destructive thing from, yes we need to work on saving the envoirment, but you make it seem like humans wanna destroy the world.

Taking a look at humanity's track record favors the idea that yes, indeed they do.

    What would you do

It's subjective to your definition largely, but yes. We fight over the most nonsensical things. We often react with emotional hysterics instead of thinking things through, we take great amusement from comedy (also known as tragedy) at the expense of others, as well as things that generally represent killing and unnecessary violence (majority of the videogame market). We think we have the right to decide what is moral and what isn't - a concept entirely subjective to each and every person - which subsequently causes us to fight each other when we're different - sometimes resulting in war. We're arguably ingenious to an extent, sure, but we're very strange, selfish beings if you look at it objectively.

I figured the words "retarded and destructive" could some that up quite well.

Just because we are sentient, or can engineer new forms of technology does not make us the greatest thing ever. We're out of touch with nature and upset balance, ecosystems, etc. for our own personal benefit and gain. Most people may not want to consciously destroy, but they're certainly willing to ignore the impact they have for the sake of maintaining convenience.
