Diablo 2 VS Diablo 3 legendaries

I personally feel that Diablo 2 completely destroys Diablo 3 in the legendarys category, even with the new legendary updates in Diablo 3 as well.

In Diablo 2 legendaries always felt attainable, while still retaining that level of prestige that made them so special. From lvl 1-99 you always felt like legendaries were an important and exciting part of the game. However in Diablo 3 you hardly ever get them, and when you do they are usually not worth getting excited over. The new updates bring them new stats, but still not a significant reason to get giddy over a legendary drop.

Anyone else have some input on this?

 

From my experience (Quit when the IAS nerf came in.. patch 1.03 I think) the legendarys were pretty crap back then. Although some of them were average. I don't know what the update has brought to boost the stats though.

I agree with you that getting one as a drop definitely doesn't compare with how it felt in D2.

The problem I think is that in D2 you knew what the legendary was before you ID'd it, because each boss dropped a set number of legendarys. Whereas in D3 you may know what legendary you have, but because some of the stats are random (and usually useless) it makes the whole thing a waste of time.

That coupled with the fact that most well rolled yellows will destroy the stats on any legendary means that, unless you need something like.. attack speed on a chest piece (that cant be rolled), legendarys are useless.
