Auction off Miniranks of Banned Users

I know this has been discussed before, and an automatic system was previously scrapped. Here are my ideas:

• Miniranks of users permanently banned for scamming/ban evading are released for auction 30 days after the ban, as long as there is no current appeal in process and/or an appeal has been denied.
  
  
• In the case of a hacking, complicated bans, or a situation where the user is attempting to pay back their victims in order to make a pardon, staff are to use their discretion in deciding whether miniranks will be forfeited.
  
  
• Profits from the auction go to charity, Sythe community prizes, or help fund Sypherz' personal coke stash.
  
  
• Alternatively, because most miniranks are low in value and a cash auction would be underwhelming, they could be given away in tournaments and sandbox games. Example, Osmium's prizebox could be given to the "first person to roll 5000" or something of the like.
  
  
• Users (keep in mind this is directed toward convicted scammers/evaders.) who are pardoned down the road will not have auctioned miniranks returned. It is their way of giving back to the community. Yah, it's a pardon stipulation but fuck em.

 

The main goal for miniranks should be to make them worthless. I don't like the complicated process just for it.

 

Not really a complicated process, I'm just a bit tired and wrote the thread poorly. Wait a month, if they're still banned give their minirank away in a contest.

 

I think it's a great idea to auction them off and give the money to the CDT or a community event which in turn is two birds with one stone.
People will pay what they think they are worth, even if it's $1 per minirank, if someone has 20 miniranks that's $20 towards a future competition because sometimes it's hard to get funds to run a competition.

Also @Ghast, If the miniranks of banned members are released don't you think that it would decrease the value? They won't ever become worthless but their value will decrease.

Users that pardon and come back, what will be of their mini ranks? They just lose them due to a ban?

Some users are banned for more than a month for complicated things that don't exactly suffice to a ban but a ban must be given. I don't like the idea as you stated in OP.

 

Why would you want to make Miniranks worthless?

 

I personally don't think we should give scammers any special treatement, regardless of whether they have been pardoned.

One of my points suggest that complicated cases be decided at staff discretion.

 

I agree scammers shouldn't be given special treatment. Tough one.

 

Having them worthless makes it easier to give out in creative ways without the constant complaints of devaluing their imaginary price. This process restores the primary intention of releasing them.

 

Your intention is good, but if you make them worthless then why would anyone want to win/get them? If everyone already has them, then there's nothing special about getting them.

 

I think auctioning them off is a good idea, but it was also be cool if they were given away in addition with the competitions as extra prizes.

I wouldn't mind seeing an "Auction House" added in the user center.
Choose an item, minimum bids are 25c and all the revenue produced would go to charity and by the end of the month, they can add the total revenue statistics in the sythemonthly.

Would be interested to see this concept.

 

Easy, for fun. Activities don't need to be profitable for others to participate in.

 

Then why do you have to even give Miniranks way? The joy of winning should be enough.

 

No support. I remember reading that if a victim was scammed by someone with mini ranks, the scammers mini ranks would be transferred to the victim. I like that much more than leaving the victim with empty pockets.

 

Perhaps miniranks which are up to the equal value to the scammed amount should be given to the victim, and the rest simply tossed. There should not be financial incentive for someone to be the victim of a scam.

 

Unfortunately, there isn't a set price or value for the miniranks. It's basically what someone thinks they're worth, that's what they try and sell them for.

 

Nobody would set themselves up in the position to get scammed for miniranks...

There always needs to be an incentive for competitions, otherwise no one would participate in them. <--- Prize
