Permanent Participation Miniranks

My idea is to have permanent community participation miniranks for specific sections. They could look like the current ones except be bordered in gold or something (the look doesn't really matter).

It could be for having 1k posts in a section, or something else that is difficult like that. Just something fun to have/work towards in your favorite section. It'll also help to increase activity.

Possible counter arguments:

a) encourages spam:

Not really, if you were to spam 1000 posts you'd be banned from infractions quickly. If you post 1000 decent posts in a section you're interested in over time that isn't spam.

b) activity will stop after it is achieved:

Not necessarily. The person might just be interested in the section or try working on another minirank.

I just know it is something that I'd personally be interested in working on. What do you think?

 

If everyones post count in that forum gets a reset. And has to achieve 1000 more posts for the rank. Maybe yes, Sure!

Support! should promote a bit of activity in sections, and would be a nice, rare addition to the miniranks that actually means something!

 

It's very much possible to spam without getting infracted. Look at prizma for example.

But someone could post away 1000 posts to get their minirank, then never post in the section again. Yet when you hover your mouse over the rank it says ***** forum participant. If you only post in the section to get the minirank, then never post in it again you are not participating to that section are you?

 

The rank would look different, there wouldn't really be a confusion.

Sure, I guess its possible that you never post there again. But one of my favorite sections is technology for example. I might stop posting as much there once I got the minirank but it'd only be towards increasing activity in another section.

 

At your current rate of posting it'll take about 1 year to gain such a minirank if you would post all your posts in 1 section.
How is it a bad thing to earn such a high-end minirank if it takes you that long?

I'd say that spreading activity of users over time is not a bad thing.

 

Support, why not? I rather have something similar to this than the current participant miniranks that disappear if you don't respond in 2-3 days time to a dead forum.

 

I like this idea, it gives those who used to be active in the past a little respect

At his current rate of posting it would take 1 year but he has no inventive to post a lot in that section. If he was given a minirank at 1000 posts then he could easily achieve it much quicker. Some people would try to abuse it but I still like the suggestion as long as its higher than 1000 posts

 

Would have to be something insane like 500+ posts in the section.
