Coinbase Bitcoin Purchasing Guide!

I wanted to make a guide to bitcoin because very many people are sketched out by it or simply don't know what it is. Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency, which is a digital currency that is not physical and is regulated independently of a central bank.​

Not very many people know how to use bitcoin, or BTC, or even know what it is. I thought I'd write a guide letting people know what sites offer bitcoin trades and what I think the pros and cons are of the most known site, Coinbase.

There is Coinbase, which is a bit easier to understand, but has the same general uses as every other wallet. You can sign up here. After verifying your email, you'll be asked to verify your phone number. DO NOT SKIP THIS PART!



After verifying your phone number, you'll be prompted to enter your payment information. You could/should do this. Once you complete the payment step, you will be brought to your wallet. If you've went ahead and set up a payment method, you should work on verifying your identity/adding a credit card to increase your limits drastically.

Why not add a payment option to Coinbase, you ask? Well, because of the way the website works, when you buy bitcoin it takes almost a full week to arrive in your wallet and the instant buy amount is a joke.

To purchase something with bitcoin, you'll want to ask for the seller's bitcoin address (make sure your seller is the real one, bitcoin is nearly irreversible!).

MANY people get confused about this. YES, 1 BTC is like ~$350, BUT you can buy LESS than 1 BTC. You can purchase $50 worth of BTC and you'll receive like 0.15 BTC.

Thanks for this - I tried buying bitcoin using coinbase before but was really turned off by how long it would take before I could actually use it.

 

Use Circle for buying Bitcoin, it's pretty much the easiest method of buying BTC online.


Overall looks like a good guide, but I'm pretty sure you have to provide ID when signing up to Coinbase and Circle now, I remember when they first came about it wasn't required but because of increasing fraud they decided to implement it.

For Circle you don't need to provide ID to have a $300 limit. If you want to increase your limit to $3,000 over time, you will. Same goes for Coinbase, you verify your identity for a bigger limit.
