Keeping Your Computer Safe And Speeding It Up [Windows]

Now firstly, you might say, "hey wtf u r noob? this r posted noob!". Please don't say anything like that, your post WILL be reported. Now back on topic, you might want to know a few things:

Q: What is your guide about?

A: Well, how to speed up your PC, and keep your PC safe with very nice methods of doing so.

    Down to business.

    ~Requirements

    • Windows XP
    • Windows Vista

    ~Step One

Press you Start Menu at the bottom left corner of your computer screen. Select "All Programs", then "Accessories", then "System Tools". You should be seeing this on your screen right now.

Now you see the two highlighted options in the picture: Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter.

First click "Disk Cleanup", it should look a bit something like this.

In the scroll box shown above, you can see may boxes you can check and un-check. Select the ones you want to be deleted and press "OK".

This will take a few minutes or seconds depending on your PC's current speed.

    ~Step Two

Now that thats out of the way, take a look at the second option in the first picture, DISK DEFRAGMENTER. Click this and you should see something like this.

Click "Analyze" and this will analyze the ammount of space you have on your computer, at the bottom you can see colors indicating the free space. Now after thats done, press "Defragment". This will take a really long time. I suggest you keep your computer running and go do something else while scanning with this.

    ~Step Three

Now you've completed those two easy tasks, time for an easier one. Go back to your start menu and click on "My Computer", located on the top right of your pop up menu. Now after thats opened up, you should see a disk called, "LOCAL DISK". Right click this and press properties. You should seeing these.

Now at the very bottom you will a box thats checked (not shown in picture because I already un-checked it), un-check this box and follow the on screen instructions.

    ~Step Four

Now you will need an Anti-Virus Protection program, in this guide I will be using Norton Anti-Virus.

A free trial version can be downloaded HERE.
Now that you have downloaded the program. Continue by running a FULL SYSTEM SCAN as shown in the picture below.

    ~Step Five

After you have finished scanning your computer for viruses and it showed up clean. You now have to scan your computer again with this program called WINDOWS DEFENDER. A free copy of this program (100% Legal) can be found HERE.

Now once again run a FULL SYSTEM SCAN. This will find and destroy malicious programs and spyware. Shown below.

    Now your DONE, finally.

Your PC will be fast and safe at the same time, what more could you want. Also as a side note, DO NOT download program you suspect as a virus, let it be. Be very cautious, the Anti-Virus program DOES expire, so if you wish to renew you must buy it for a one year or two year subscription of $39.99.

There are about 10 guides like this floating around. And all this could be found with a bit of looking through your computer.
