How to re-format/re-install windows xp

I know this guide has been posted before, but it wasn't very good. I just recently formatted my comp, so i thought i would make this guide.
If your computer has been infected by viruses (Like mine did) or its just lagging like crap. Then this is for you.

Step 1: You will need to backup everything you are going to keep. I put all my files that i needed onto my USB. Then i made a list programs i would need to re-install after the computer was formatted.

Step 2: You need to find the Windows XP OS Installation CD given with your computer.

Step 3: Verify that all of the necessary files are backed up safely on a USB or CD/DVD. Then put the Windows XP OS CD in your CD drive.

Step 4: Restart Your computer. Upon restarting it will say something along the lines of "Press Any Key to boot from this CD" Now you... Press any key -_-

Step 5: Give it a minute to load and then a blue screen will popup. It will ask to press F8 to accept the Windows license agreement. It will then ask if you want to repair. Just press ESC to install a fresh copy.

Step 6: Now you will have to delete your existing partition and create a new one. Use the arrow keys to scroll down to the C:\ drive partition and press d to delete it. It will ask are you sure? Press L to confirm.


Now you have to create a new partition, go to the un-partitioned space and press C to create a new partition on max space. Now you will have these options:

Format the partition using the NTFS file system (Quick)
Format the partition using the FAT file system (Quick)
Format the partition using the NTFS file system
Format the partition using the FAT files system



Select "Format the partition using the NTFS file system"

Then it will start to install the files:



After installation your system will reboot. It will again ask to press any key to boot from CD. DO NOT PRESS ANYTHING, or else your installation will start all over again. Just leave it alone.

After that, you just need to set up a few settings like your time, date, and area code, computer name, and username and password. If it asks to input your Serial number, You will find it on your computer.



The installation will finalize and your system will reboot for the second time. Again DO NOT press any key at the any key screen

After installation do not be alarmed of how your screen resolution is. First go download the latest windows service pack and install it. Then install programs and anti-virus software. After that, you must install the graphics and audio drivers for your computer so your screen resolution dosnt suck and you can listen to music

If you don't have the driver CD's you may go to your computer manufacturers website and download them from there.

very nice guide.. very detailed and good use of pics, even though i already knew how to reinstall windows cuz i do it quite often, cuz a lot of viruses attack my computer but still good guide.
