    Background
Camtasia is a screen recording program by TechSmith.
    Download the trial:
    [download] http://www.techsmith.com/download/camtasiatrial.asp[/download]
Or buy the full version for only $300(~£150)
    [download]http://www.techsmith.com/purchase/default.asp[/download]

Assuming you already have Camtasia, you're ready to go. Open up camtasia studio and click new screen recording. Now, dependant on what area you're recording, you're likely to want to record the whole screen. So click select area to record, and click up in the top left corner and it should highlight the whole screen area. Now is the simple bit, just carry out the guide, and end the recording once you're done.
Once you have completed the recording, open it in Camtasia Studio and choose the dimensions you want. I'm going to use the pre-sets. Make sure "apply SmartFocus" is checked. Now if there's any editing you want to do, do it now. Once done, Ctrl + P and choose custom production settings.

    Then choose .GIF format
    [IMG]
Choose your encoding options (stock is OK)
    Choose desired video size
    [IMG]
Now add any author options or watermarks if wanted
    [IMG]
If you added Markers in your editing, you can sort them here
    [IMG]
Now choose the video name, and produce it!

Now you can simply host your .gif and post it as you would a picture.

I suggest adding what Camtasia is used for, in case some people want to buy it.

Nice guide. That application is a very good tool it's just so much better than any other screen recorder.

    You are so cool.

Bro, good effort but you are missing the point.

You said about making videos but at the end you only specify about making a gif. Please do clarify about other options and anything that we have to know about compressing/where to get codecs/best codec packs etc...this would definitely make the guide better!

You should tell people what the max size of the video should be..I did a full tutorial and edited it just to find out the gif size is too big. That sucks... Or give me the link to a site where I can upload big gif files.
