[GUIDE] Creating a Gaming Profile for Better Performance.

Creating a gaming profile for your Desktop or Laptop Computer

Note: I am not responsible for any damages that may occurr during or after this process. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL DAMAGES, IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING, DON'T DO THIS. ATTEMPT THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK.

This tutorial is designed to help users get the best performance out of their computer when playing video games. I learned how to do this in my Web-Design class in the eleventh grade, which was about two to three years ago. I have been doing this ever since. It has dramatically increased my computers performance while playing video games. I will explain what creating a hardware profile will do for you in the long run. After you complete this tutorial you will have an "Original" and "Gaming" profile. Depending on what you want to do when you turn on your computer will dictate which profile you choose on boot. Making the profile will alter your computers setting by closing all unnecessary processes and services. Which will result in a faster more alert computer environment.

Note: Follow all of the instructions to get the best results. The results may vary for other users.

Getting to the hardware profile creation screen.

    Go to START>MY COMPUTER(RIGHT CLICK)> Properties.

Go to the hardware tab and look at the bottom of the window and click Hardware Profiles it should look like this:

    Creating and organizing your profiles.

When you click on Hardware profiles a window like this should be showing:

~Before we go into great detail let me say that when maintaining a computer, organization is the key. If you do not keep your computer organized chances are you will end up in a bind or even a virus.

Lets get started, you should be at your hardware profiles window. Lets start me renaming the Current profiles to DefaultDP. This will be the default profile you use when you are not gaming. Next, I want you to select the DefaultDP profile and click "Copy". This will copy the DefaultDP profile once. Now, Rename the duplicated DefaultDP to GamingDP. Now you have created the gaming profile. Continue to the next step to get the rest of the directions.

    Setting up your Gaming Profile.

~In order for you to setup your new Gaming profile you must reboot. Upon rebooting you will come to a selection screen in which your profiles will be listed. If you did not set the Profile selection timer then you only have 30 seconds to select the gaming profile. So at the profile selection screen select "GamingDP". It should boot normally just like your DesktopDP profile did. It boots normally because we haven't set it up yet.

Once Windows has completely booted up and is fast and functional we are ready. First of do this: START>RUN... And type MSCONFIG and hit OK. Here is what it should look like:

Afterwards you should have a window up called, "System Configuration Utility." It will look something like this:

Verify that your computer has that window pulled up and continue with this tutorial.
Next, we will move to the General tab and select Normal Startup. This will allow your computer to boot safely and efficiently. After that you must go to the Services tab and look at the bottom of the window for the option to tick "Hide all Microsoft Services" click it and then look at the bottom again and click "Disable All". This will disable all the unnecessary services that are on your pc. Next, go to the startup tab, and look at the bottom of the screen once more and select disable all once done hit apply a message may pop up informing you off the inability to disable all the services just click ok and and that window will disappear and another window will open up asking you if you want to restart or exit without restarting. Click Restart and boot into your gaming profile if you are wanting to game.

And finally you have a gaming profile to use that will give you a much better performance that it would with all the unnecessary services and processes. Enjoy!

I did say that a window will pop-up saying that some processes and services may not be disabled. And this is of course for Windows-XP ONLY! That Window that pops-up does mean that it can't kill those certain processes. Its worked for myself, my sister, my brothers, my wife, and my friends. Like I said I am not responsible for damages that occur to your computer while and after you are attempting this tutorial.

Again, agreeing with juvenilepunk. People don't want to damage their computer, and if this is an innocent guide, no need for such disclaimer.
