    Nothing will install

I cannot install anything with using either a disk or downloaded software. A program will start installing and then it will pop up with an error saying something about a cab file. I have reformatted my computer numerous times with Windows Vista Home Premium and Windows Xp Professional and I always still seem to have this problem. Someone told me it could be a hard drive issue so I got another hard drive and I still have the same issue. I also tried using 2 different DVD drives but got the same error... different cables as well.

    Computer Hardware
Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254)
    Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd.
    System Model: 965P-DS3
    BIOS:Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 CPU 4300 @ 1.80GHz (2 CPUs)
    Memory: 2046MB RAM
Page File: 360MB used, 3579MB available

    DX Setup Parameters: Not found
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT
Sound Device: Realtek HD Audio output

I have right clicked my computer > Manage > System Tools > Event Viewer and have both yellow and red errors under Application and System.

    Application

    Red: Msiinstaller Event:11335 and 11708 and 11316
    Red: Application Error(100) Event:1000
    Yellow: Userenev Event:1517
    Yellow: Automatic LiveUpdate Event:101
    Red: Application Hang(101) Event:1002
    Red: Event System Event:4609
    Yellow: Event System(50) Event:4353 and 4356

    System
    Red: cdrom Event:15
    Red: ntfs Event:55
    Yellow: Tcip Event:4226
    Red: System Error(102) Event:1003

    OFF TOPIC
Also this is kinda off topic but I downloaded the Steam thing, and every time I try to download one of the games it tells me that the steam servers are busy and to try back in a few min.(steam works on my computer for some reason)

^He said anything causes the problem

Have you tried installing from a non-pirated version of Windows?

When was the last time you were able to install software without this issue? Any changes you have made since then?

It wouldn't make sense why something wouldn't install if he reinstalled the OS and got a new hard drive. Yeah I think pirated software is the only things that makes sense.

Both the copies of windows are legit. I have installed them fine with other computers. Theres very few files that will work. Also if I use a game or something that I bought at the store such as Age of Empires 3 it will say its corrupt... As soon as I installed vista I had problems, when I downloaded xp it wouldn't work after I installed a few programs.

I am beginning to believe that your situation is fake, has falsified information (whether or not it is on purpose is up to you), or is missing some important piece.

Anything else we would need to help solve your problem?

If the software was legit you wouldn't be able to install them on another computer.

I'm not sure about that; I was able to install Windows Vista and Windows XP Home perfectly on multiple computers, using only one license for each.

    I'm already doing that.

What about your motherboard drivers? Try installing them all again, from scratch?

Ummm... Why would I waste my time trying to fix something thats not broken?

Ill try to reinstall my drivers later today, though im thinking its not going to help since I have reformatted my computer many times...

You can install a legit windows xp on multiple computer... you just have to turn the automatic updating off. Even if its on, all that they will do is not allow you to install updates anymore.

Osmosis, I believe you mean Capacitor o_O

TurkeySnaggier, I'm not saying that it isn't broken, just that something crucial is missing from what you're saying. It just doesn't add up.

he's not BS'ing. I've got the exact same problem. NOTHING on a CD will install (downloaded stuff seems to work, i just successfully DL'd and played BnB, a Korean game by Nexon).

    Anywho, background story:
got tired of my comp being slow and retarded, full of crap when i got to college. Campus IT Dept. offered free restoration, complete with a new copy of XP or Vista Pro. I called them up, told them i wanted to toast EVERYTHING, even the HD. before they came, i disable the gfx card i had upgraded, and set it to use the onboard card that came with the system. (i had also upgraded the RAM, but i didnt do anything about it before they came. They nuked everything and did what i asked, but the retard set the hard drive partitions up wrong, so 2 months later i did it again with an IT guy who i'd made friends with, he set the HD to just one giant partition with all the space on it, and proceeded to reset the OS. both times the techs had trouble making the windows install work. but now i just use that computer for the internet and music, becuase Word '07 wont work (it did before, and i had another install left on the disc) and nothing will install off a CD (even if i copy the entire CD to the hard drive before installing)

    System Stats are:
Processor- AMD Athlon XP 2800+2.08 GHz
Motherboard- ASUS Model : A7N8X-LA Rev. Rev 1.xx
    onboard gfx- NVIDIA nForce2 IGP*
BIOS- American Megatrends v3.14 (heh heh, just noticed that's pi)
    RAM- 1GB DDR DIMM PC2700 [replaced -->]512 MB 2700 DDR (2 x 256 MB)
*GFX (in AGP)- nVidia AGP NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 (replaced onboard gfx)
-Original HD- SAMSUNG SV1203N 120 GB Hard Drive
-Replaced original 16x DVD drive with DVD writer + Lightscribe
    -Original CD-RW drive(48x/24x/48x)
-Added 6-channel Sound Card and 2 fans
