    Humanity is a Virus

I think the Earth will be glad to get rid of us.
I don't worry about global warming or pollution whatsoever. Once the humans are no more the Earth will fix itself. I'm sick of people talking about how we are destroying the earth. But I just don't think any species could really destroy the earth. I think that it will replenish over time even if we do put it through global warming.

    Agree? Disagree?

You're completely correct. What we are doing to the Earth makes it more unpleasant, yes, but in no way threatens its survival. Life is EXTREMELY resilient and adaptable, and will continue to flourish after we are gone.

Also, the Earth has been here for billions of years (4.62, if I remember correctly), and will be here for roughly five billion more (until the Sun becomes a red giant). Even if we nuked the entire planet several times over, within a few million years, the radioactivity would diminish to tolerable levels, and life would spread again.

Oh really? Where did you get those info, cause I read that the Earth could be "considered" safe for the next 2-3 hundered years.

I prefer "Insane". Be more politically correct asshole.

So in the end it isn't going to matter anyway because the sun is going to explode.

Do you think it is plausible that evolution could stop because of something we've learned as humans? By learned I mean, we know that the sun is going to blow up. So what would be the point of continuing evolving?

Well, 5 billion years is still a phenomenally large amount of time for evolution to happen. After all, all life you see today arose in roughly 3 billion years.

But, since evolution is basically natural selection, it has largely stopped already (for humans). No longer do the weak, scrawny, and unintelligent die, they are taken care of, and survive to pass along their genes. Unless there is a global cataclysm that destroys most of our technology and forces us to live under harsh conditions, not too much will change in the next few million years.

It's been estimated that Earth is 4.567 billion years old. That's the closest they've come. I have science papers of this, right in front of me, in my primary language. Can't be assed translating it and posting it here, unless if someone actually wants me to.

Whaa? We're still evolving. Thing is, evolution is a process that takes millions of years, and we only recently started scientifically documenting things. Like in the mid 1600's, if I remember correctly. If you look at humans today, then compare them to how humans looked 60.000 years ago (Neanderthals) you can notice some vast differences. We're a lot more intelligent than them with more compassionate emotions, logic science and capabilities to perform logical calculations in our mind, but they were heavily built with robust bone structure. Unlike our bones, which are quite fragile.

The sun isn't going to explode. The sun is 99% ignited gas, and it only has a limited source. It's going to grow huge as hell, then slowly decrease in size, and eventually implode and engulf our entire solar system, including Earth.

Close to no life would be capable of surviving that, Earth will be a planet with an ashey surface. It's not impossible that a new heat source will occur after a couple billion years, and somehow a cell would miraculously of managed survival, then restart the evolution chain over again. It seems unlikely, seeing as the sun is vital for all registered life today, but a possibility indeed.

Definitely not. There isn't like a planned network of complexity holding the past, present and future together. Just because we've figured out the most likely, theoritically correct explanation; doesn't mean anything to our evolution. Evolution isn't conscious, you know.

Ahhh, never thought of it like that.

So in your opinion, do you think humans empathy towards lesser humans may stop evolution? Or at least hinder it?

Ah, yes, that sounds right. I had forgotten. :p

Well, yes, we have evolved since the time of the Neanderthals. All I'm saying is that survival of the fittest doesn't really happen in current society, as the weak and incapable are saved by modern society.

It probably would hinder it, in my opinion. I don't think you can ever fully stop it, as people with severe genetic defects (Down's syndrome, etc.) don't really reproduce.

I think that we should worry about global warming. WE ARE DESTROYING THE EARTH!!! Why should our future generations suffer for the damage we have been doing.

I believe personally that evolution is a massive load of bullshit first of all, and second, no...I do not think we are destroying the Earth, I think that when it is time the Earth will no longer have human life on it, and everyone will be living in eternity, but it is up to you where you end up.

And by the way,Doorsfan?Get some damn sense into yourself kid...
"The dudes that wrote the bible must'v been trippin' balls."

Why don't you try reading it first instead of making idiotic comments about The Bible?

There's no need, I've read the entire thing. I think what he says is dead-on. But, I'm sure there are other threads dedicated to this discussion...

You shut the 'eff' up and bugger off elsewhere, 'kthxbai.'

I agree. I do feel that the Earth would 'repair' itself - eventually. After a long, long time.

Personally I don't think the end of the Earth is anywhere near anyway, nor do I think the typical, plain Global Warming theory is correct either.

    1 word: education.

    1 word: education.

    To help you out: http://talkorigins.org/
You know, when making decisions such as faith, you should not only investigate both sides, but you should also stick to non-biased sides. Biased sites like anti-religion or religious sites in general are more likely to manipulate with facts, statistics, archeological findings, etc. Use Wikipedia or Talkorigins, because neither of those sides are anywhere near biased. And yes, the Bible is biased towards Christianity.

I couldn't find it at the public library. I looked all over the science fiction section. =|
